So what's your guys' stance on Confederate Memorial Day?
My unit does a couple of the memorial events in other states. Turns out Virginia stopped official ceremonies a while ago. Yankees, all of 'em.
Wasn't aware such a holiday was even a thing

Pseudo American freedom, sure.
pretty good, got up at noon, had donuts, then took a nap, then did stuff with my girl

I don't know why they needed a day all to themselves separate from Memorial Day.
EDIT: Found out that Memorial Day came after and emulated Confederate Memorial Day. It should still be considered obsolete because of Memorial Day, though.
As for my thoughts on the day otherwise, I don't really mind. They're still soldiers that died fighting for their version of America. It's easy to judge them in a world that has progressed so far, but they truly believed they were in the right and died doing so in a long heated debate that lasted past the 1960's.

Good
Confederates were all bark and no bite

Because it isn't "The War Of Norther Aggression" here.

Quite a few were drafted as well, so there's that too.

I always preferred "War Between the States"; a civil war usually implies two factions fighting over control of the nation as a whole where as this conflict was a war of separation.

Ye it's War Between the States. I'm obligated as a Southerner and Confederate reenactor to call it War of Northern Aggression. Plus me several greats granddad was in the Army of Northern Virginia.
I'm obligated as a Southerner
I'm from the dead center of Georgia and still think 'War of Northern Aggression' is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Yankee detected
I like to call it "The War of Northern Superiority". :^)
I like to call it the Civil War.
i like to call it naptime in class.
'Merica, where the only people we hate more than commies is ourselves.
I'd still say we hate the Commies more.

The only thing worse than a Yankee is a commie.
Better dead than red.
I have a friend who was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He once gave me a long speech on why the only legitimate name for the war was "The War of Northern Aggression", citing northern trouble given to the south almost all the way back to 1776.
I didn't really pay attention.
imagine honestly caring about the civil war in 2015
imagine honestly caring about the civil war in 2015
That's almost synonymous with living in any rural southern area.

It's more of a cultural thing than an actual complaint, these days.

It's funny, though, considering most southerners during the 19th century have migrated out of the South, while the South has become full of these "Confederate" rednecks who are from up north.
For example, I have a friend who claims nearly full German ancestry and lives in a very southern household.

That's still a thing too, although usually without reasons pertaining to the Confederacy. Plenty of political far-righties from the north move south to avoid the taxes and politics. Can't say I agree with them, but there's a lot of native upstate New Yorkers where I grew up who were meant to live in the Bible Belt in the first place. Story of my parents even.
Fact: the South sucks because they lost the war.
Fact: We have the best craft beer.
