Do you have the bayonet mount?
Yeah, but I hack sawed it off. It was getting in the way putting the handguard on.

I have both the smaller 1500rd box mag and full size A&K box mag (which I've yet to use). I've found the smaller box mag easier to deal with, doesn't make it as hard to hold the SAW as the full size box does. A vertical grip helps with this issue.
Having a M249 does have advantages. If your box mag ever runs out of ammo or breaks down (more likely) you can always switch to M4 mags and still be in the fight. I've had to do this a few times on the field when my box mag went dry and there was too much fire going on to take the time to refill the box mag.
