how can you brainwash a child towards atheism? religion itself is irrational and attempts to explain the currently unexplainable
and evolution kinda disproves adam and eve doesn't it? as far as i know it doesn't say, "and adam evolved from a common ancestor of apes..."
All it says is Adam was created. Never details how.
And yes, one can be brainwashed to any belief. You can forcefully drill into one's head your own belief, be it political, religious (or lack-of, in atheism's case), etc.
The US funds both religious and atheist groups, if I'm not mistaken.
Minor help for one side or the other isn't really wrong.
not sure at what you're trying to prove here
i'm talking about the tax exempt status of political churches (which is like... all of them)
as for u.s. government funds being relocated to atheist groups? i'd like to see proof on that; as i don't think the u.s. government funds religious groups either.
How can you say that Atheism is a religion when we are against Religion and dont believe in god.
Imo Religion should be in the same category as shit talking people with different skin colors. Priests in my town everytime I meet them they say I should go to the church for one sessions to see how I ike it.

God forbid people can put what they want into their own bodies!
Also catholics/christians all taking stories like adam and eve from the bible as a literal interpretation are fucking retarded.
It's so obvious it's meant to be a story with a moral, not an actual 'history lesson'

atheism is hardly a belief, it is more of a lack of belief - that is my point.

I don't think they fund atheist groups, but I'm pretty sure they give some stuff to religious groups.
After all, a lot more than 50% of America's pop is religious. And religion is the simplest way of massive mind control, so of course they fund the church.
I didn't say proving religions false, I said disproving or proving the existence of a deity/god
To prove a negative, ie: god not existing, you would have to know everything. Therefore it is irrational to ask people to disprove something, that's exactly why the burden of evidence lies on the people claiming god exists.

I'm not praising drugs, I just thing someone should be respected enough to be told about drugs in such a way that it's like "okay here's what the drug does, here's the risks and here how it can effect you, now you can take this if you want or you can leave it, it's your choice" instead of "this shit will fuck you up, sweet jesus your fucking lover will fall out your ass if you get within 10 feet of this shit man!!"

that is one of my major issues with religion
to say, "this is a metaphor", "this is a moral lesson"; is picking and choosing what to believe. in a sense, you aren't following your religion 100%, you're simply picking and choosing what fits neatly into your own world view
You do realize atheist parents can be just as brainwashing as religious parents?
That's what I meant. ANY kind of brainwashing is bad.
I was lucky. When I was younger, my mother felt bored and decided that she wanted to try Christianity. Even though I went to church every Sunday, I did not feel that it was right for me, so we stopped going. This was before I learned about evolution and all that fancy stuff at school, so for the most part I wasn't given a glance to any real science.
Even though I would be perfectly content right here, right now as a Christian, I was given a choice. That's the most I could ever ask for.

Thomas Jefferson wanted to edit the Bible, deleting all the 'It's magic I ain't gotta explain shit' bullshit and leaving only the moral code. He was going to call it "The Book of Moral Teaching of Jesus of Nazareth". Didn't work.

What fucking religion is bigoted or sexist? Christianity sure as hell isn't, the people who believe in it may be, but don't label me as a bigot or a sexist just because I believe in something different than you.

How is it obvious? Yeah anyone can write some bullshit in a book, and when contradicting evidence is presented, claim it was a metaphor.
i don't think they directly fund churches, unless you're talking about their tax exempt status
I should look it up, but I'm pretty sure I read something about the Bush admin giving money to the church.
Plus the Bible is fun to read. Don't believe a word if it though.
Still I would recommend reading it at least once, religious or not. It played a huge role in the formation of the modern world, so saying it is unimportant is like bitch slapping a war veteran.

How Ironic.
Isolating and blacklisting creationist theories or theses that aim to analyse the central organism of existence based on their origin is incredibly arrogant and ignorant. Blacklisting any theory is a detriment to scientific discovery. At what point do you decide a theory is a religious one?
You're definitely an open-minded and reasonable person, unlike the agnostic Stephen Hawking; that guy is an absolute dummy!

Christianity isn't sexist?
Then why is Eve the gateway to hell, weapon of the devil, and the original sin?

i chose my words carefully. i did not say a religion. i did not say "all". to be offended is ignorant on your part.
islam's sharia laws
the old testament is very sexist
and many believe that using the bible as an example, that women belong in the home
racism can be seen in the book of mormon
etc
etc
you're extremely dimwitted if you are offended by what i said

agreed. the bible is decent, if taken as a big metaphor, rather than absolute truth.
religion really shouldn't matter, so long as it isn't forced upon others.
as to the OP, religious beliefs shouldn't affect political decisions in any way. "i'm going to vote no on this because my holy book says it is wrong. i personally don't see the problem, but the book is holy, it must be right."

Er, the so called 'scientific creationism' (Read religious fanatics ranting) presents untestable hypotheses (Not theories, theories must be supported by evidence).
Unstestable = Not science.
And I have a link to prove it!
Creation science does not qualify as science because it lacks empirical support, supplies no tentative hypotheses, and resolves to describe natural history in terms of scientifically untestable supernatural causes.[5][6]

But with atheism you still believe in something (if just atheistic, nothig else), just like any other religion. You believe in the absence of something.

Beliefs cannot be defined with negatives.
its a metaphor :downs:
Then for the most part, the Bible has some damn good metaphors.
And it's not like you traveled back in time and could see what the person who wrote the Bible was thinking. He/she/it could have been making a fictional book of metaphors, what they actually believed or their name could have been God and are trying to make their dick(?) seem bigger.
You'll never know 100%, just like how we'll never know how the universe started 100%.

There is no point.
What I'm saying is people should start living their own damn lives and not have to follow a holy book.
