• Atheism as state religion

I feel like i'm the only one who's atheist in this city I mean, come on, 98.99% of 488k people are christian [editline]09:10PM[/editline] Can't expect much from Brazil :sigh:
My family and I are pretty much agnostics, we don't go to church, because we don't feel the need to go to a church just to speak to god. I of course, do not, and I lean more towards the ideals of Atheism, I figured out about "Santa" way earlier than everyone else, and it just led me to the conclusion that an existence of a being more powerful than anything is not possible. What still pisses me off is when people say Agnostics are the same as Atheists. I just want to punch those people in the face.
This is why we should teach people critical thinking, logic (including identifying logical fallacies) and reasoning.
It's people like you who piss me off. Epicly. You assume people who aren't religious are dumb, uncritical, and illogical. That's fucking bullshit. There are plenty of idiotic atheists, as there are plenty of idiotic religists, but don't assume everyone who's religious/differs in opinion from you is idiotic, illogical, or below you. Plenty of men have thought that in the past (thinking people who differ in opinion are below them), and from them we get the Holocaust, Cultural Revolution, Great Purge, etc. [editline]08:53PM[/editline]
We can't know that for sure until we know exactly what it is that causes us to be conscious beings, and able to think like we do. Correct me if this has already been determined. (Yes I know it has to be something inside the brain, but what exactly would it be?)
I like how you're saying everything about that theory is true, but it's never been proven nor can it be. The only people who know whether it's true or not are dead, and I don't think we'll be hearing their report any time soon.
Yeah but that afterlife when your brain is still alive would only be able to last a split second. Though with DMT it may seem like longer, it wouldn't be forever.
The belief is that there is a corellation between an element of the subconscious mind and what may be considered a soul or connection to an exterior plain of being. When in a meditative state, if feels as though that element has removed itself from the physical body, but when influenced by a psychoactive drug, it acts as though it's still tethered and constantly being pestered by the conscious mind.

I'll follow your line of logic, for a brief moment. I have a pink elephant in my room. Currently, I am the only one who can see him, and he is now speaking into my ear. He is named fred. I have a huge following, called elephantians, who believe me and follow his teachings. Because you are not me, you cannot disprove this. Which means I'm right.
My opinion, I'll have it if I want. I personally don't believe everything in existence can work together in such an intricate and clockwork manner just by random occurence. Evolution may very well be true, but if it is, I personally believe a Diety engineered it.
As a Christian I believe that the church has no right meddling with Government. Sure, people could peacefully protest and that's alright but the world leaders shouldn't be making their choices based on their religious affiliations.

I fucking hate most atheists. Ironically, I am atheist myself. You know, being the ones who are a tad more logical and educated, you'd think that most wouldn't be major dicks about other religions. If you're cool with my atheism, I'm cool with whatever you believe. Like that one mall that had a display of the birth of Christ: some jackass atheists corresponded by putting up a huge sign saying "THERE IS NO GOD FOR THESE REASONS: *reasons* If someone wants to believe in a god, whatever. Forcing atheism on them will not make them smarter. I know atheists who are retarded as fuck, and hardcore Christians who are some of the smartest people I know. Get over it.
If you don't want your government to be affected by religion, don't vote religious people into it. Problem solved. Also, Atheism is far too broad of a term. There are plenty of people out there that don't want religion, and don't bother others about it. They're atheists, but they don't bother anyone about it. I wouldn't consider them to be religious. There are, however, other atheists out there who push their belief that there isn't a god with an absolutely religious zeal. They might be fighting religion, but they do it religiously.
Atheists should get equal representation in government (In the US, it's the most under-represented minority, slightly less-so in Canada), but to call it a religion is asinine. Now there ARE atheistic religions and that's another story.
Forcing atheism on them will not make them smarter.
And who exactly is doing that? Saying that religion needs to go away isn't forcing it on anyone, it's just stating an opinion. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone here who wants to legislate atheism.

When asked to explain how and why god did what he did: It's too complicated for anyone to understand because it was god. [editline]11:14PM[/editline] Oh and while it all may seem so complicated and organized, it's just a lot of very individually simple processes constantly reacting to the previous ones.
Agnosticism is stupid. You don't need to disprove something MADE UP. You don't need science to disprove the existence of something like the flying spaghetti monster because it was made up by a person. Also, my parents believe in god because it makes them feel better and that so when they die they think they will go to heaven, I don;t think they actually believe this, but I think it just makes them feel better...
Agnosticism is intelligent. It's the notion that you can't know whether or not god exists. Of course, most people who label themselves as "agnostic" are retarded fencesitters who not only don't understand the term at all, but don't realize that it overlaps with terms like theism and atheism rather than replaces them. Furthermore, anyone who supports banning any religious or theological stance is an idiot. As long as it does not directly harm someone, it should not be banned. If you want to eradicate something annoying or stupid from society, you do it by convincing people that it is annoying or stupid. If you're just going to outright ban it and slaughter or imprison anyone who tries to acknowledge it, you're not really making progress.
to say otherwise makes you a tyrannical dick
Ever taken a look at the bible? That's a fucking two-way train. Belief can be fine, it's when people put it to practice that makes me wanna tie a red scarf around my head and form a militia...
This is why I like Russia, 75% are athiests.
This is why I like Denmark, 85% are athiests. [editline]06:38AM[/editline]
The United States of America
The constitution says it has none, but we can nearly all agree on that there is a very VERY christian majority who would see nothing more than to base the entire country on the word of The Bible. 50% of americans think the world will end in their lifetime with Jesus coming back. For all intents and purposes, the US is christian.
Might as well pitch in my two cents. Basically, how I see it is that there is a chance at a higher power existing in some way shape or form, but that possibility is incredibly low, simply because the big bang seems as logical as some kind of mystical being who has always existed and was never created himself creating the universe as we know it in one fell swoop. You can't possibly claim your religion is the one true one after thousands have existed before it that claimed the same thing. What about the people living on the other side of the earth who have no access to your religion, would any god create them only to be condemned to hell or whatever kind of afterlife there is? What turned me away from the prospect of participating in any religion is the existence of animals before humanity and the existence of humanity before religions, and the fact that multiple religions exist before each other and claim to be the one true religion. Simply it feels so goddamn illogical. When I discovered the existence of "Gays", that presented me with an interesting prospect. The Christian bible has some very blunt verses about homosexuality being wrong, yet doesn't god have a hand in the creating of every human being? Why would any loving or logical god purposely create a person who would be immediately condemned by his followers. If according to God, homosexuality is wrong, why would he create people that are homosexual? And then we get to creationism. Dinosaurs existed. We know that the universe isn't 6,000 years old. If such a core part of the Christian belief system is so horribly incorrect, how can you possibly stand by any of the other parts of it as fact? Not like any of this is relevant to the thread.

You are telling him to stop being so hateful, stop being so intolerant. Are there ANY religions that teach tolerance of other ones? Spanish inquisition, Holocaust, blaming Jews for the Black Plague, claiming Jews are responsible for some insane master conspiracy, Muslim extremist killing thousands of people because of their life style.
