What's up with the hovercar thing? It's like they never even use the wheels? *Edit* oh right, anti-gravity
you said you liked tropico... isn't there fucking 5 of them?
and i enjoy mario kart a lot too doesnt mean that nintendo will survive the next decade on mario kart just because it was at one point a top selling game
No one ever said that so idk where you're getting that from. What Glitchman was saying was that the Wii U needs games, especially one that will help sell the system, and Mario Kart is currently one of the best ones it has going for it other than Smash Bros at the moment. No one ever said Mario Kart is going to save the Wii U/Nintendo.
I still don't like these "just hold drift until you get the boost" mechanics I liked moving the stick left and right, made it way more fun [editline]4th April 2014[/editline] I'll still pick it up though
The problem with that method is that snaking was an absolute terror in the earlier Mario Karts and made it so you couldn't compete if you couldn't do it. I could and I was glad to see it go in MK7 (maybe MK Wii, I try not to think about that one).
Mario's head is bloody massive compared to his body, also, the graphics look awesome. Shy guy!
Shy Guy Master Race.
I hope the next big 3D Mario game looks this good
It will be another 2.5D Jump and Run :v:
I ALWAYS vote Rainbow Road in multi-player lobbies.
I like the way the characters hold their items like in double dash.
Looks great but I'm not going to buy a console just for another mario, zelda or other rehashed character game.
and i enjoy mario kart a lot too doesnt mean that nintendo will survive the next decade on mario kart just because it was at one point a top selling game
The two most recent entries in the franchise have both been the second best selling games on their consoles by far. MK Wii being only beaten out by Wii Sports, it blew away CoD in sales for fuck's sake. "At one point" was in fact as recently as you can possibly measure based on when games released, not a long time ago.
and i enjoy mario kart a lot too doesnt mean that nintendo will survive the next decade on mario kart just because it was at one point a top selling game
Are you implying Nintendo won't survive off one of its best selling IPs? That's like saying Valve won't survive if all they did was release sequels to their famous IPs. Besides, there's also the new Donkey Kong Country which I hard is great.
I hope the next big 3D Mario game looks this good
3D World does though? [editline]5th April 2014[/editline]
I see this a lot. I don't want to shit on the WiiU, but it's not true. Wind Waker HD 1080p/30 MarioKart 8 1080p/60 in singleplayer, 1080p/30 in split-screen multiplayer Bayonetta2 720/60 ZombiU 720p/30 Wonderful 101 720p/30 Pikmin 3 720/30 Super Mario 3D World 720p/60 Black Ops 2: 640p/60 with drops
I'm pretty damn sure that Wind Waker, 3D World, Pikmin 3, as well as Wonderful 101 run at 1080p and fluent 60 fps. I have played all of them and none of them felt like slow 30 fps and were crystal sharp.
Looks like you can't drive up to the castle on Royal Raceway. Fucking dropped.
3D World does though?
Don't get me wrong, 3D World looks great. But it looks nowhere near as good as this game.
What's with the spinning thing that hits karts close to you? Is it an item or just a free way to mess people up when they get too close? If it's the latter that'd kinda suck.

Been gone for the weekend. Felt like catching up and replying to some interesting topics in here.
I really like that, for the past few games, they haven't been taking out any of the new features, like Bikes, Gliders etc.
Actually, 7 removed bikes. 8 brought them back.
There is a mode like this! There was an article earlier today; you can have no items, only bananas, the works. I dunno if it'll be super customizable, but it probably will.
7 had this too and it wasn't customizable beyond a few preset options. IIRC the only options were all items, mushrooms only, bananas only, shells only (unfortunately includes blue shells), bob-ombs only, and no items. I'm really really hoping for a Smash Bros.-style item selector this time. Come on, Nintendo, it would be effortless to implement.
I see this a lot. Wind Waker HD 1080p/30 MarioKart 8 1080p/60 in singleplayer, 1080p/30 in split-screen multiplayer Bayonetta2 720/60 ZombiU 720p/30 Wonderful 101 720p/30 Pikmin 3 720/30 Super Mario 3D World 720p/60 Black Ops 2: 640p/60 with drops
Mario Kart 8 has not been confirmed to be 1080p and so far every trailer released has been in 720p. Press confirmed that it's only 30fps in 3- and 4-player modes, too; 2-player is 60fps. Black Ops 2 on Wii U is also 880x720, not 640p. Whatever list you're looking at sounds partly made-up. However, it is true that other than Wind Waker HD every first-party Wii U game so far has been 720p upscaled. Even Dr. Luigi.
I'm pretty damn sure that Wind Waker, 3D World, Pikmin 3, as well as Wonderful 101 run at 1080p and fluent 60 fps. I have played all of them and none of them felt like slow 30 fps and were crystal sharp.
Well you'd be wrong, then. I don't know about the other games' FPS counts, but Wind Waker HD was confirmed 30fps, notably by Cosmo (that guy who does the crazy world-record OoT runs). I also know SM3DW is 60fps, but it's definitely 720p. It's quite easy to tell that all of these games are only 720p on my 50" TV because of the slightly muddy scaling effect and the obvious jagged edges. Mario Kart 8 will probably be 720p too, but it's still gonna look fantastic.
The other problem is the gamepad's screen though. Sure some games use it, and use it well. But look at DK Tropical Freeze, where it's off when playing on the bigger screen. And MK8 doesn't seem like will use the screen in a special way either. I'm not sure if it will also be off, or it will mirror or does what DS/3DS MK did, but it doesn't seem to be anything special. I can't see SSBU having anything going on without it being unfair.
MK8 uses the bottom screen to show a minimap and all the current items of the other players. DS/7 used it to not only show items but also a nice overhead view of your area, so you could see stuff behind you. Obviously they took that out of 8 because you can only use one Game Pad and the other players wouldn't get the advantage of having the bird's-eye-view map. Being able to see all the items is still extremely useful, though; keeping an eye on the bottom screen for the other players' items is a required skill when you start getting into the higher matchmaking ranks online. It's a common strategy to slam the brakes and let the 2nd-place guy pass you up so he can eat a blue shell that you caught a glimpse of on the bottom screen.
Reports on MK8's resolution seem to be mixed, some places same 720p and other say 1080p. But since the majority say 720p I think it's mostly likely running at that resolution. [editline]8th April 2014[/editline] But having seen the game in person multiple times I personally couldn't tell what it was running at other than a stupidly smooth 60fps.

Wouldn't be suprised.
