I've got long and curly brown hair. I like it, though I might make it a ponytail sometime, I don't really care what others think about it. So just choose a hairstyle which you like, don't let other people affect your choice.

You could go for the natural look and not do anything to your hair for 5 years and just have it flopping about freely and naturally. Unless you're suffering from baldness, your hair should style itself nicely to a unique look so you can be yourself. By getting a 'trendy' and 'fashionable' haircut, you're pretending to be something which you're not. This isn't a good way of doing things in life as it gets you nowhere good and you can end up making a mess of your life. Just let it be natural and then you can live life normally in a way that feels natural.
