Why putting my damaged graphics card in the oven was the best advise I've ever listened to

For people saying this is a stupid idea because it only worked for me, you're only supposed to try this as a last resort, if NOTHING else will fix your card, so you have nothing to lose incase it doesn't work.
You wouldn't exactly throw a working graphic card into the oven, would you? Use your heads.
I wouldn't dare cook a graphic card, it might explode or melt on me (though it shouldn't).
Reflowing the solder is not unheard of, I did it with my last GPU (I tried run some pretty demanding game on an old shitty computer, which I didn't know dusty as shit inside.
Put your red ringed xbox into the oven?
If you wrap a red-ringed xbox in thick towels then turn on and leave for hours
the solder should melt and go back to the right place.
Worked for me anyway.
Does this also work for motherboards? I would like to try this out on my old broken PC.
It reflows solder, so if the motherboard died from overheating (and flowing the solder and breakign it) then yes, reflowing and hoping it goes back would work.
Would that oven trick work for fixing artefacts that look like this? Or is it a problem with the chip itself and not a solder?
It would be nice having my old video card fixed.

Worth a shot.
That is hilarious. That reminds me of a friend who was getting help putting his new computer together from another guy, other guy dropped the processing chip and bent several of the fragile pins. He BENT the pins straight again and the chip works fine.
Fucking miracles, how do they work?
Try putting it in the freezer after heating it in the oven.
I did it with my old 9600 and then it was gone for real.
My screen had more rainbows than a fucking gay parade
This made my day.

This thread is also informative and p cool.

Holy shit i never knew you could bend a piece of wire! Thank you for informing me about it, i shall proceed to bend wires for the whole day, it's a truly amazing discovery!
I also had a reality-check during this 5 minute wait, I suddenly realised I was sat on my ass on my kitchen floor, with a jug of water in my hand watching my fucking graphic card cooking in the oven infront of me. I truely had hit nerd rock-bottom. :ohdear:
Those moments are absolutely amazing, specially when you get something good out of them.
Somehow, I don't think pouring water on your oven in the event of a fire would have been the best solution.
Turning the gas off first will help. Nothing to light the fire with then.

I was gunna pour it over the card incase it caught fire, not the oven.

How the fuck can we tell you if it's a chip problem or a solder problem?
That's like throwing a needle out of an airplane and predicting a 1 inch by 1 inch area at least 50% of it will land in.
You don't have anything to lose, just try it.
By the way OP, there have been many threads on this. If you don't know by now you must live under a rock. Nothing "Amazing" happens here.

How is that amazing at all?
It's fucking not.
I did the same thing a few months ago with my 8800GT (i had colored lines all over the monitor, couldn't see anything), still working perfectly.

I've been hearing that alot of 8800's have died this year.... hmmm

That might work, but my procedure works better:

Throw out Red Ring'd Xbox 360

Get a decent PC

Upgrade PC and make it better
It's a good card, but nothing lasts forever.
8800 is a truly interesting card. How old is it now?
Well I suppose it's a decent substitute in case your soldering iron breaks.
It's a decent substitute for soldering hundreds of points with your iron too. I've done similar stuff on automotive ECUs using heat guns.
I read a thread about throwing the iPhone 3G in the oven to fix a wifi issue just yesterday. Same deal, it's just funny how the two threads were so timely.
Works much better if you use a rotissary and a fire.

If memory serves me correct I think the 8 series came out back in 07.
I put my RROD'd xbox 360 in the oven.

It did not work.
The fuck is wrong with you man, your suppose to wrap it in towels, not put it in the oven.

I had tried every trick in the book up until then. It was a last resort.
Also, contact "is it a good idea to microwave this?" youtube channel and talk about your miracle, ask them to reproduct it in their lab 2.8
