Why putting my damaged graphics card in the oven was the best advise I've ever listened to

My 8800GTS died the same way :(

same thing as using a soldering iron to resolder things
Just a question for the 8800 owners who had their cards die: Did you ever monitor its temperatures and took adequate measures to cool it if they went critical?
I told my friend to try this, and he put his integrated chipset into the oven. Now he can run Metro 2033 at max settings!
Thanks OP! :downs:
Similar principle to using the Towel Trick on a dead 360.
It melts the solder and on the connections and most of the time fixes dodgy connections. It's going to pack up on you eventually though, what you've done is a stop gap not a fix.
My littlesisters 8800GT broke down suddenly and she bought a 9800GTX to replace it.
I think I should try this on her broken card and laugh at her if it works. :v:
I put my RROD'd xbox 360 in the oven.

It did not work.
Warranty: Voided.
If memory serves me correct I think the 8 series came out back in 07.
Yup, I've had my card for 3 years now.
Turning the gas off first will help. Nothing to light the fire with then.
Not all people have gas ovens, you know.
I was gunna pour it over the card incase it caught fire, not the oven.
Someone post the picture of the guy on 4chan telling people to heat up spoons them put them under water causing them to explode.
All it takes is a pair of these to make it edible.
That might work, but my procedure works better:

Throw out Red Ring'd Xbox 360

Get a decent PC

Upgrade PC and make it better

There is a 360 Icon under your avatar.
my computer's doing something similar, i should try this
Probably not always..
it works every time, it's not like resoldering is something that goes differently each time.
Put your red ringed xbox into the oven?
Yea, plastic and all. Preheat to 400*F, shove that shit in there, and in 10 minutes you'll have a working 360. It works.
also fermi joke here

I don't take responsibillity if it doesn't work :v:
This is relative to my interests.
I spy an MSN photo, are you a girl?
Also, yeah it is actually a good idea.

Nope. I'm a guy, on the right.

wow you look really cool
Would that oven trick work for fixing artefacts that look like this? Or is it a problem with the chip itself and not a solder?
It would be nice having my old video card fixed.

i had the same problem, back when i used to play source games with a geforce4 mx440, it's the extreme shittiness of the card that does that

i can't tell the difference between the three, are you twins ?
My 8800GT died recently and I bought a new 9800GT. I should try this for shits and giggles.
-snip-
I have an 8800GT that died on me lying around here. I'ma gonna go chuck it in the oven and see if it works! :v:
Hey, i have a 500Gb drive that died for no apparent reason, will that work ?
When my GTX 480 dies, I'll try this as a last resort.
... If the oven is capable of producing more heat than the card itself.. :ohdear:

Probably not, but do it anyways.

Goddammit, i'm going to do it and post the results here ( as soon as i find a fire extinguisher )
This works on the same principle as the towel trick for fixing rrods.
So, if my 360 (the first one that came out, I never cared to replace it) died, presumably from overheating, if I did the towel method it might fix it temporarily?
I'll be replacing it sometime, Because I want to replay fable 2 pretty bad :saddowns:
Edit: because everything I keep reading about says the towel method just kills it
No warranty left, by the way.
