So, if my 360 (the first one that came out, I never cared to replace it) died, presumably from overheating, if I did the towel method it might fix it temporarily?
I'll be replacing it sometime, Because I want to replay fable 2 pretty bad :saddowns:
Edit: because everything I keep reading about says the towel method just kills it
No warranty left, by the way.
It might fix it, it might not (It probably won't), most of the time taking it apart and reseating the heatsink works.
In case you didn't know, freezing a broken hard drive will fix it
In case you didn't know, freezing a broken hard drive will fix it
Most of the time only temporarily, so if it does work get anything you want off it asap. This trick has saved my ass once.
Those lines on your screen aren't from a graphics card problem. It's a problem with your monitor. I had it on my last gaming laptop, replaced the screen and it worked perfectly.
Also, that's amazing that it actually worked after that.
i can't tell the difference between the three, are you twins ?
You cant eat a gfx card. Silly woman.

Oh, fair enough then. The correct term would be triplets.

good to know, and stop playing :eng101:
Anyway, UPDATE:
I tried to repair my drive using that method, and fuck it doesn't work !
Yup, I've had my card for 3 years now.
Yeah man thought so.
I wish I had heard of this months ago... I couldn't play any PC games for months after my 8800 died... since my computer sucked to begin with I didn't even bother buying a new card and instead built a new computer.
shit i hope that doesn't happen to my 4670
that things a beast
My 8800 GTS still lives on.

Pics of my dead 8800GTS from my thread:

Unfortunately, just last week it died for the second time :crying:
Replaced with an upgrade though. Might re-bake it sometime in the future.

For the note, I baked it about 8 months ago (so it lasted 8 months).
If we take our knowledge from computers in about 10 years time (probably 50 instead) we can just stick ourselves in the oven to fix stupidity :downs:

it would be nice if you could stick your post in the oven instead :smug:
Reminds me of wrapping up my old Xbox 360 with a towel to fix it for a few hours.
also fermi joke here
My GTX480's are so hot they re-solder themselves every day.
I'm glad you found a fix! I've heard of this method before, but I've always been skeptical.
Reminds me of the time I had to wrap my RRoD 360 in a towel when I started it up to actually get it to boot. Worked for a year.
I had a similar issue

So you know what I did with my video card? RMA'd it because BAKING IT IN THE OVEN VOIDS THE WARRANTY
And now look!

Although if your card is shot with no hopes of getting it replaced, baking it in the oven is a viable last ditch effort
My 8800GT died recently and I bought a new 9800GT. I should try this for shits and giggles.
You know, you can sli them if it works
You're suppose to bake the card whilst the GPU is facing upwards. If the temperatures are controlled wrongfully, gravatational forces can actually yank the GPU right off the board if you reflow it with it facing downwards as a worst case scenario. The GPU will most likely warp even further, and the already-warp solder balls will not be able to melt and fix themselves
The fuck is wrong with you man, your suppose to wrap it in towels, not put it in the oven.
The towel "trick" is not a fix at all. It will only fuck up your console worse, to the point where you can render it unfixable after numerous attempts
I counter your artifacts with mine from my old card.

I can't do the oven trick tho. I "fixed" it with a vise and a sledgehammer.
i can't tell the difference between the three, are you twins ?
No we're not, just good friends.
wow you look really cool
I know.
I just did this with my YLOD'd launch PS3. (The "official" fix requires a "heat-gun". Where the hell am I supposed to get that?)
Nothing happened though.
Really, It changed nothing at all.
Did it with my old 8800GTX like a year or two ago :3:
Will try this with my two broken 7950 GX2's.

if any of those doesn't work please donate it to me
