You got very lucky. So did I. I record audio for game sound effects and related productions. A few weeks ago a really nice storm rolled through. I set out to record it. Right when I finished setting my audio gear up and hit record, literally 1 and a half seconds later, lightning hit a few hundred feet away: https://soundcloud.com/dave308/dc-voltage-spike-lightning Hear the clicking sound right before the thunder? That's the lightning itself traveling through the SM57 I was using as part of the recording chain. The SM57 microphone capsule is not shielded from electronic interference like the SM58. It literally "felt the lightning".
It surprises no-one has bought up the fact that everyone has rated this with lightning haha, and also the house two doors down from my Dad's house was hit by lightning. This was a few weeks ago by the way.
