This what I imagine Daenerys Targaryen's dragon when it's fully grown up:

That seems pretty low-tier when compared to ASOIAF dragons on the battlefield tbh

If I was to buy A Storm of Swords, is my knowledge from the TV series enough to jump straight into reading it not having read the first 2 books?
If I was to buy A Storm of Swords, is my knowledge from the TV series enough to jump straight into reading it not having read the first 2 books?
there are differences we can point out but it would be better to just read from AGoT. ACoK was changed more in the TV show and is actually much darker than the show.
either way as pointed out you have 5 months, read all 3. plenty of time
[editline]22nd October 2012[/editline]
not to mention the tv show has left out many characters and subplots. also the books are much much clearer. as a for instance SEASON 2 / ACOK SPOILERS [sp]it is much clearer as to why jon kills the halfhand[/sp]

Read the first two books please.
Alrighty, thanks.
this is probably still the best deal on the first 4

Just finished ADWD. No more spoiler tags for me. But... (ADWD spoilers) [sp]Did he really kill off Jon? Kevan was unexpected too.. I mean I'm more for Varys but, damn.[/sp]

probably not. there is much speculation as to [sp]if he is actually dead (and how he'll be revived) or if he isn't dead. he is the best candidate for AA reborn so he can't really be dead[/sp]
This is GRRM, it's impossible to predict what he'll do.

That's what I was hoping but, yeah [sp]getting stabbed four times and then blacking out seems kind of like death to me. [/sp]

Yeah, but [sp]Melisandre is there, and she's like a more powerful, and much hotter, Thoros. She'll probably give Jon the 'Ol Fire Kiss and he'll be fine. Or he'll live on in Ghost, Sixskins style. Either way, Jon Snow isn't dead, not entirely.[/sp]
[sp] Speaking of living in ghost, Jon better do some badass warg stuff, like take over a direwolf pack the size of Nymeria's and kick some Other ass[/sp]

[sp]He might just be seriously wounded. I mean, there are plenty of cases in real life of people surviving worse[/sp]

back then? or whatever time period is equivalent? probably not

I'm just hoping he'll be the same [sp]Jon[/sp] we knew if [sp]she indeed manages to revive him[/sp]unlike [sp]Stoneheart[/sp].
ADWD finally came in the mail, time to read it
I'm just hoping he'll be the same [sp]Jon[/sp] we knew if [sp]she indeed manages to revive him[/sp]unlike [sp]Stoneheart[/sp].
(ADWD) To be fair [sp]Stoneheart seemed to have a loose sense of sanity after Bran fell and it all went even more downhill after Ned, she was pretty much insane by the point she arrived at the Red Wedding with all of her "woe is me everyone is dead and everything is shit" thoughs, and Robb's death made her totally insane. Jon seemed sane when he was stabbed, so hopefully mental condition stays the same as it was during life[/sp] :v:

Yup, that is totally correct, disregard what I said. :v:
[sp] Still can't wait for legions of hounds to route the Lannister armies.[/sp]
[sp] Still can't wait for legions of hounds to route the Lannister armies.[/sp]
Nah Lannisters are cool and have been through enough. And the armies have no one to really fight and are still just peasant soldier boys.
Not to mention the people can hardly get enough crops to survive as is, the wolves would just eat entire villages.
Personally I hope [sp]someone seriously wounds or kills Nymeria[/sp] I mean sure she's nice to [sp]Arya and the Starks.[/sp] But she's a serious threat to the smallfolk and a [sp]giant horse sized direwolf[/sp] slaughtering innocent people won't make [sp]House Stark[/sp] look very good.

I doubt anyone knows she's actually [sp]a Direwolf of House Stark.[/sp]
Speaking of the Great Houses, I'm actually kind of surprised at just how far [sp]House Lannister[/sp] has fallen over the course of the series. I mean initially by A Storm of Swords I was under the impression the real loser was [sp]House Stark[/sp], but as Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons showed me, [sp]House Stark still has life in it, while House Lannister is sort of dying.[/sp]
[sp]Tywin is dead, Kevan is dead, Jaime is reformed who can't marry/hold titles anyway and Cersei has lost all vestiges of respect or power following the Walk of Shame. Hell, the only hope for House Lannister is Tyrion, and he's a kinslaying imp widely believed to also be a kingslayer.
In contrast, House Stark only lost what, a few kids and the parents? Sure Arya and Bran are potentially beyond saving as "Stark" children, but Sansa and Rickon are still alive and well.[/sp]
It's actually amusing, there's a lot of talk about how House Stark's lawful stupid "muh honor" have gotten them into plenty of problems, but look at what that honor got them. [sp]House Stark is still widely revered and held in great honor by the North, even though they're functionally dead and hold no power as a political force. House Lannister in comparison put no stock in honor or respect (with Tywin famously saying that it's better to be feared/hold power then to be loved) and the results are glaring; they're in the same boat as House Stark, but with none of the support from others. No one loves them, no one cares for them.[/sp]
I'm about halfway through "Clash of Kings" and...wow. This series is really amazing. My favourite character is probably Arya, followed by Littlefinger and then Tyrion. My least favourite character would have to be Sansa, then Dany, then Joffery. [sp]Before he died, Khal Drogo was also one of my favourite characters, just seeing the way the savage warlord was so gentle to the Moon of his life was amazing[/sp]
