Question to book readers:
[sp]Going by the second season's ending, it seems that the Night's Watch will have a pretty damn good idea that the Others are back.
Now, I've read on some spoilers because I can't help myself, and I know Sam survives, so he could tell the rest, so, why is it that in the next 3 books the rest of Westeros isn't more in a panic about the Others? I don't see much mention towards them in plot summaries or anything, and you'd think they'd have their heads up in fear about them.
[/sp]
I had it in my head the rest of Westeros doesn't give two shits about the Nights Watch. (other than The Starks of course) Hell, in the Game of Thrones mod for CK2 banishing someone to the wall is basically saying "I can't be arsed to fuck with this faggot so you deal with him."
it was confusing. why did he do it? seemed like they were plotting something when he pushed him down the hill.
Qhorin is a famous member of the knight's watch. That's why they captured, rather than killed him, because he has valuable intel.
He knew they would torture him until he told them every compromising detail, narrowing the Night's Watch already slim chances of defending the wall against Mance Rayder's army.
So he had Jon kill him, because Jon had a chance at ingratiating himself with the Wildlings if he proved himself a turncloak.
Qhorin wants Jon to simply watch, find out more, then report the details on his return to the Wall.
That's the gist of it, I hope it explains why Qhorin provoked Jon into killing him.

Why did the wildings decide to let Jon kill him though if he's that important?

The rest of Westeros doesn't give a shit about the Night's Watch. To them, the watch exists only to serve as a dumping ground for criminals, and to stop wildlings from entering Westeros.
They don't believe in the White Walkers , or the wights (the zombies that the White Walkers/Others control).
Why did the wildings decide to let Jon kill him though if he's that important?
Because they figured if Jon had gone turncloak, then he could tell Mance the important details, such as how many men patrol each area, and to see whether he was truly on their side or if he was just bullshitting them.

Also, Rattleshirt is not very smart.
Anyone got any other questions? I'm pretty well-versed in the lore.
Also, don't start at book 3, that's fucking stupid.

[sp]Someone told me that there's apparently some sort of colony of Children of the Forest north of The Wall. What's it with those?[/sp]

The Children of the Forest were pretty much the first race on the planet, and they fought with The First Men, until they reached a truce.
Little is known about them, but perhaps you may find out more about them later. Don't look it up on the wiki.
Heh, this is apparently from a Gr. 9 Maths Textbook:

One more thing to note about The Children of the Forest
The wise men of the Children of the Forest were known as "Greenseers", who are said to have wielded powerful magic.
Am I the only one who thought that WW at the end looked like Benjen Stark? In an undead, iced over, blue eyed, dead black horse, sort of way?
Book 3 HUGE spoilers, you have been warned. [sp]Jesus, George is a cold bastard. The way he killed off Robb and Catelyn is freakin' depressing. They cut Robb's head off and sewed his Direwolf's head on his body and they cut Cat's throat and threw her into the river.[/sp]

For some reason I thought that was going to be the big reveal, of him being turned into a Wight.
Imagine if the white walkers make it south of the wall.
Medieval shaun of the dead.
Just finished watching the episode, holy shit, that ending
(episode spoilers)
[sp]I expected The House of the Undying to look a little different... no complaints though. I half wished Arya chose to have gone with Jaqen to see these "Faceless Men", I'm presuming they're assassin's of some sort if they can change their appearance[/sp]
So just to confirm it's a really bad idea to pick up at book 3?
I was able to get away with it with book two after just watching the first season, I didn't actually finish the book though, I got only up to the part when [sp]Renly dies[/sp].
Yes, it's a bad idea. The show leaves out so much information that you're going to be very confused if you continue reading book 3. Start with the first book.

[sp]I think its perfectly safe to assume they are assassins since Jaqen has been fucking carrying out contract assassinations for Arya all season and can appear and disappear at a whim[/sp]
Okay, some points here:
Am I the only one that would like to tap the everloving shit out of Margaery Tyrell? she's so damn hot.
Just watched final episode of season 2.
[sp]House of the Undying was pretty disappointing, I guess they blew the entire effects budget on Blackwater. Where's the fucked up magical layout where you have to turn right to survive? Where's the council of decaying, eternally "alive" corpses? It just felt cheap, and didn't live up to the book.[/sp]
[sp]Maybe I just don't read well, but I don't recall A Clash of Kings mentioning wights and white walkers marching on the Wall. It was all about the threat posed by Mance Rayder's wildling army moving south. Sam heard the horn blow, but that was it. Still, it was pretty cool to see.[/sp]
[sp]Tywin's horse shitting in the castle was a nice touch.[/sp]
One thing I want to know, why does the maester in kings landing act feeble in public?
One thing I want to know, why does the maester in kings landing act feeble in public?
I guess it's to throw everyone off and make them think he's completely harmless and unscheming
I have a question regarding the books,I bought a pack of all of the books before A Dance With Dragons,And when it arrived I only had one book of SoS,Is it both parts together or do I have to buy another?

Is it Hardback? The hardback one is one book, as is aDwD.

If it's around 1000 pages it's in one part
Allright allright you've convinced me, i allready have GoT in book form, ill grab 2&3 on friday.
Drogo uses throat rip, it's supper effective!
heh, that's a new one
To people who have read the books,
[sp]Does it ever explain how Jaqen was captured in that cage to begin with...? I imagine he would be pretty hard to catch, with him being able to throw lethal darts out of nowhere[/sp]
