I wanted the [sp]bridge of boats[/sp] however briefly, it would have looked insane
[QUOTE=sanitarium.;36413705]I have a question about the Blackwater episode (haven't read the books, maybe it's better explained in them): why did Stannis attack from just the sea? He could have landed his entire force nearby, constructed siege engines, and carried out a full scale assault of the walls. Instead he lands on a small strip of beach and his advantage in numbers is thrown away. I know they weren't ready for the wildfire, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a bad idea to attack in full force from the water.[/QUOTE] He was probably hoping to just land on the beach and breach the weak gate quickly, possibly hoping to avoid a prolonged siege where[sp] Tywin could have come to the aid (which still happened).[/sp]
Just bought the first book, so far I'm liking Essos a lot more then Westoros.
[QUOTE=LtKyle2;36434711]Just bought the first book, so far I'm liking Essos a lot more then Westoros.[/QUOTE] It's like a roller coaster, it gets pretty fucking awesome and then it drops and now you're trying to [sp]find a boat that takes you over to another roller coaster, when suddenly someone else has taken that boat.[/sp]
[QUOTE=LtKyle2;36434711]Just bought the first book, so far I'm liking Essos a lot more then Westoros.[/QUOTE] Really? I felt that the Dany parts were tedious. Once she reaches Quarth it just gets more and more boring until the House of the Undying. 90% of Quarth is just Jorah moaning about how dangerous it is, Dany bitching about her dragons and how she needs boats, Xaro showing off how rich he is and Pyrat trying to get her into the house of the undying. However I do like the descriptions and lore of Essos.

Guy came into where I work and bought all the books today talking about how he couldn't watch the show after reading the books because it was too different
[QUOTE=GoldenBullet;36443567]Guy came into where I work and bought all the books today talking about how he couldn't watch the show after reading the books because it was too different[/QUOTE] He brought the books twice?
I was going to edit that but either my internet or facepunch fucked and refused, he read book 1 and didn't like the first series
So Howland Reed is the only person (since Ned is dead) who may know of Jon's Parentage, right?
[QUOTE=myalt22;36445853]So Howland Reed is the only person (since Ned is dead) who may know of Jon's Parentage, right?[/QUOTE] Spot on. Unless there is someone Martin hasn't told us about who also knows.
[QUOTE=Dominicus;36445863]Spot on. Unless there is someone Martin hasn't told us about who also knows.[/QUOTE] Perhaps, but It seems only Howland & Ned knew [quote]Howland fought alongside Eddard during Robert's Rebellion, and accompanied Eddard to the Tower of Joy to reclaim Eddard's abducted sister Lyanna. Only he and Eddard survived, and Eddard once claimed that Howland Reed saved his life from Ser Arthur Dayne. Since the end of that conflict, Lord Reed has not left the Neck. With Eddard's death, Howland is apparently the only remaining person to have witnessed the mysterious events that took place in the tower that day.[/quote]
[QUOTE=myalt22;36445853]So Howland Reed is the only person (since Ned is dead) who may know of Jon's Parentage, right?[/QUOTE] Well there's speculation about whether some of the people involved are dead or just in exile. Of course Howland is the only person to be confirmed alive (as of CoK) who would know the answer to the most common parentage theory.
I'm near certain we'll see him in TWOW at some point. Also WTF, he just sends a 13 year old boy and a 15 year old girl out on their own to go wandering about to Winterfell? [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] [quote]“I looked for you on the Trident,” Ned said to them. “We were not there,” Ser Gerold answered. “Woe to the Usurper if we had been,” said Ser Oswell. “When King's Landing fell, Ser Jaime slew your king with a golden sword, and I wondered where you were.” “Far away,” Ser Gerold said, “or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our false brother would burn in seven hells.” “I came down on Storm's End to lift the siege,” Ned told them, and the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne dipped their banners, and all their knights bent the knee to pledge us fealty. I was certain you would be among them.” “Our knees do not bend easily,” said Ser Arthur Dayne. “Ser Willem Darry is fled to Dragonstone, with your queen and Prince Viserys. I thought you might have sailed with him.” “Ser Willem is a good man and true,” said Ser Oswell. “But not of the Kingsguard,” Ser Gerold pointed out. “The Kingsguard does not flee.” “Then or now,” said Ser Arthur. He donned his helm. “We swore a vow,” explained old Ser Gerold. Ned’s wraiths moved up beside him, with shadow swords in hand. They were seven against three. “And now it begins,” said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light. “No,” Ned said with sadness in his voice. “Now it ends.”[/quote] This would a fucking awesome flashback scene.
the kingsguard fucking sucks now. i doubt really any of them, except jaime, are the best swordsmen in westeros... and (boo3 + spoilers) [sp]jaime sucks now too[/sp]
Ser Balon Swann is probably the best member of the kings guard at the moment. He doesn't have any flaws, and Jaime considered him the best of the bunch when he was looking them over. [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] [quote]He is big across the chest , his arms thick with muscle. He is young, brave, courteous and a skilled fighter. He is good with a lance, better with a morningstar and exceptional with a bow.[/quote]

[editline]22nd June 2012[/editline][/QUOTE] We still don't know a lot of (Book 5[sp]Silent Robert[/sp]. Although there is quite a big chance he's (Book 5[sp]Gregor Ceglane raised from the death or saved from it somehow.[/sp] Which would make him the best member of the Kingsguard when it comes to fighting. Not so much when it comes to anything else.

[QUOTE=thrawn2787;36447242]))[/QUOTE] Stuck 'em on the spoilers like that on purpose.
i was closing your parenthesis
[QUOTE=thrawn2787;36447475]i was closing your parenthesis[/QUOTE] I know you were. Which I why I told you my reasoning for doing what I did.
[QUOTE=myalt22;36445853]So Howland Reed is the only person (since Ned is dead) who may know of Jon's Parentage, right?[/QUOTE] Well its said he was the only one that witnessed Lyanna Stark's conversation with Ned before she died. (Book/tv speculation about Jon) [sp]I'm 90% sure Jon is the son of Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen. The promise was probably for Ned was to raise him as one of his own.[/sp]
That is indeed the general concensus of this thread.
I really dont get how they're going to deal with with Roose Bolton in the next series. They cant really leave him out as he becomes a major character (or at least a minor character which sets off a shit ton of events)
[QUOTE=Doc Diddles;36447883]Well its said he was the only one that witnessed Lyanna Stark's conversation with Ned before she died. I'm 90% sure Jon is the son of spoilers[/QUOTE] tag that so people can come to their own conclusions or read it through their free will thanks
[QUOTE=thrawn2787;36448505]tag that so people can come to their own conclusions or read it through their free will thanks[/QUOTE] Done. Even though its lightly talked about in book 1/season 1 and it serves more as backstory rather than a spoiler. A major spoiler would be telling who the parents really are, but right now its all up in the air and that theory is the most likely one.
right and if it ends up being correct then the surprise is ruined for people who didn't want to read it

As for [sp]what his son does, I bet it's one of those things where they talk about it but don't show it, like Jaime getting captured.[/sp]

Looks a bit like a more weathered Vladimir Putin (and every bit as much of a prick as him) [IMG]http://awoiaf.westeros.org/images/thumb/b/b4/Roose_tvseries.jpg/230px-Roose_tvseries.jpg[/IMG] I think you mean Ramsay, and I think he's been cast.
