My Girlfriend has started watching this, she's about 4 episodes into Series 1. I'm getting constant texts saying Cersei and Joffrey are deplorable shits. I'm so proud.
Sounds like a keeper.
ASOS/Season 3 spoiler [sp]Ian McElhinney is back as Barristan Selmy in season 3, according to his agent.[/sp]
Edit:
And [sp]Luke McEwan as Rast.[/sp]
May I say I really don't like the [sp]supernatural black shadow plot device[/sp] that kicked in at the middle of season 2. I don't mind having a bit of fantasy there and there, but that just came the fuck out of nowhere.

I just couldn't suppress a loud 'what the fuck'. Besides, it happens twice in the books (apparently). Plus, shit got really interesting because of it.
I do love how pretty much everyone wants to kill [sp]Joffrey[/sp] once he [sp]becomes king[/sp], and how clueless he is.
I thought this was pretty neat

I agree, zombies and dragons are realistic, but [sp]shadow creatures[/sp] could never exist.
Saying this story has a bit of fantasy in it is like saying LOTR has some walking in it.
How dare a fantasy series have fantasy elements to it.
Next they'll put in zombies and mermaids.

Too bad after those to it's [sp]never mentioned, referenced, or used again. Seriously, if they can do it twice, they can do it more times. Stannis has plenty of enemies, why not unstoppably kill them one by one?[/sp]

Because [sp]it'd get a little suspicious? Besides, I hear giving birth isn't exactly something you want to do several times in a short period of time[/sp]

[sp]Only Melisandre can do it and when she does, A. she tears open her vagina and B. it fucks up Stannis pretty bad[/sp]

[sp]The show explains is badly. Basically it feeds off of Stannis's life energy or whatever and he is severely weakened by it.[/sp]

Isn't that pretty much what they spent all of season 1, even the opening of episode 1, building towards?

That's not the issue. The issue is that while dragons took an entire season of build up before appearing and zombies have been seen twice (and have been explained well in the show, and are still being built up), that one thing just popped the fuck out nowhere in a single episode then fucked someone up the next episode and then disappeared.
Pretty much every single other fantasy element in the series is being built up, explained and kept for important moments, and that one particular thing was just thrown in and out in the span of two episodes.

The first season had a lot of building up on [sp]white walkers, I think that's their names[/sp] and dragons. We got to see both of them after a while and there's still a lot to show.

Difference is Game of Thrones is a light fantasy. It has dragons and zombies and supernatural shit in it but it never dwells to much into it. Otherwise the book seems mostly based of the Medieval Dark Ages rather than Tolkien's works which is what separates it from so many other book series out there.
A Song of Ice and Fire wouldn't be a quarter as good if it had Elves, Dwarves (you know which kind of dwarf I mean, not Tyrion) Orcs, goblins and "Dark lords" running about.
Holy shit the [sp]wildfire[/sp] is the best fucking thing ever.
So seeing how Storm of Swords is going to be split in two seasons, what do you think they'll end it on?
(MAJOR ASOS SPOILERS) [sp]The Red Wedding or Joffrey's death?[/sp]

ASOS [sp]I hope it's with Arya being smacked in the face with an Axe so people think she's dead for a whole year.[/sp]
It would be absolutely delightful to hear the anguish.

Then expect every single show discussion to be filled with
[sp]"IS SHE DEAD? BOOK READERS TELL ME IF SHE'S DEAD! OMG WHY DID THEY KILL HER, IS SHE REALLY DEAD!? BOOK READERS PLS TELL!!!"[/sp]I
I don't think that would be a good enough cliff hanger.
I think the thing at the place about the people would be the best one.
You know what I'm talking about. I'm too lazy for spoiler tags.
The season 2 soundtrack liner notes contain photos from season 1, which is a really petty thing to be annoyed about, but still grrrr
I e-mailed some actors I'd like to see and Graham McTavish' agent said he was a huge fan of GoT and asked me if there were any roles he'd fit. Any suggestions? The actor usually plays roles like this.
Graham, I'd love to see him in GoT. I think he'd fit great, not sure which roll though...
I've been reading the first book, about half way through. I'm actually surprised at how close the first season follows the book.
I disliked Catelyn in the show, but she's a fucking cunt in the book. The way she treats Jon, basically forced him to the wall, and almost every bad thing that happens to the Starks can be attributed to her (Bran getting pushed out the window is maybe the only thing that isn't her fault).

But she doesn't want Ned to go South right at the start
Her good advice is never heeded.

In book 2 she becomes less of a cunt and more of a sympathetic, ice cold bitch. I mean so much shit happens to her its hard not to feel sorry.

I just clicked that out of habit and spoiled myself. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Good fuckin' spoiler though.
