I guess, but the first one ended with the bog standard "Freedom reigns America the Beautiful" type ending so I figured it keep on like that
I do like a good superpower brought low story so I don't really care
Just ignore the first game. They practically say that in the video.
I wonder just how much footage here is prerendered/not in the final game.
It was per-recorded, and probably scripted, but it most likely isn't per-rendered. This is the Cryengine after all.
A Just Cause-like open world style in the Homefront world would be fucking sexy. I think the resistance 'fight the man' idea really works when you have to gather the people and supplies yourself and decide what to attack, all the while keeping it hidden. I think a more open world should definitely be the direction to go for the devs.
I enjoy games where I am the underdog and I have to fight 'the man'
It's a reason I loved HL2 so much, the rebels are rag-tag as fuck and are fighting tooth and claw.
If you liked that then you'll love Red Faction: Guerrilla. The gameplay is exactly like the title: open-world Mars ruled by oppressive EDF. Even at the late stages of the game, where you get a fucking disintegration rifle, you still have to use Guerrilla tactics. You'll NEVER win a fight no matter how much firepower you have. They have tanks, jets, smart bullets that can go around corners, fucking miniature black hole grenades. When shit hits the fan, you gotta get in a car and either hide out at a resistance base or drive fast, very fast.
It also has the best destruction system (except for some points where half a ladder can hold up an entire second floor of a building) and you can bludgeon your enemies with a sledgehammer. In multiplayer, you can unlock an ostrich to replace the sledgehammer. Yes, you can murder someone by smashing their skull in with an ostrich. 10/10 would like a sequel to Guerrilla and not another Armageddon. Armageddon isn't bad, the coop survival mode is pretty goddamn fun, but...ostriches, man.
Sorry, I went on a crazed tangent of my love for Red Faction. [sp]I LIKED RFII GODDAMN IT[/sp]

Red faction is also by the devs of Saints Row

Is it bad that Red Faction: Guerrilla was released five years ago and I still have yet to see a destruction engine surpass it since then?

Well, Breach had a cool destruction engine but the rest of the game was the equivalent of a dead walrus
Who gives a fuck if it's impossible North Korea could invade anyone? I'm pretty tired of every game's enemy being China, Russia, or the Middle East. At least with North Korea, the game gets a little bit of the oppressive regime and cult of personality flavor unlike COMMUNISM STRONK RUSSIA AND CHINA STOMP AMERICA that's been done a hundred times.
There doesn't even have to be any suspension of disbelief. This isn't a realistic world scenario simulator.
No, but it is meant to be taken as a serious story. I mean, they might as well have had us invaded by secret Vatican holy armies or a neo-British empire, at least that would have been equally plausible and much more interesting than scraping the bottom of the ENEMIES OF FREEDOM barrel because all the good ones were taken.
I also like the speed at which they hit and run when the rescue the prisoners. They dont stick around and kill the rest of the guards. They all just scatter in different directions like you would probably do in a real guerilla movement.
Crysis 2 was an awesome game, what are you even talking about? The singleplayer was great, if a bit easy once you get Stealth Enhance and the multiplayer was fun as fuck, if a little unbalanced. I remember playing the beta and running around in Armor mode with a MG i tore off the mount. I don't really see how it was bad.

Crysis 2 was just a mediocre game, Crysis 1 was better than it in almost all ways, especially the MP.
In C1 the MP had VTOLs and all sorts of really damn awesome weapons. It was this cool mix of CSS, BF, ArmA, and COD.
Given that this is a completely different set of devs (Crytek) from the first game (Kaos Studios) it's basically an entirely different game with very little to do with the first one. Crytek bought the rights to Homefront when THQ went under.
Crytek probably liked the idea of the game and thought they could do it better.

It's not just Crytek, it's Crytek UK, also known as Free Radical, also known as the developers of TimeSplitters. Oh boy, I'm excited!
