I still remember a review of Episode 2 that said "We might have to wait as long as christmas 2009 for Episode 3." We should celebrate the 10th anniversary of Episode 2 somehow.
This, SkiFree, and the Adventures of MicroMan.
Oh fuck I thought I was the only one who played that I actually downloaded it once for nostalgia's sake. It does NOT live up to my memories of it.

I played my first m-rated game, half life 2, when I was 16. And I had to prove to my parents I was mature enough to play it. I did not turn out okay.
My contribution to muh childhood nostalgia whoring:
J!NX has been on Facepunch since he was conceived and he's not that troubled. Nothing to worry about.
They let... a child play a R-18 game? edit: Excuse me for expressing a bit of concern when a young child plays such a game. My parents weren't as chill like this father. I mean scenes like where the advisor kills Eli or gathers information from the dead rebel is maybe a bit much for a kid of 6-7.
Dude my dad let me play gears of war when I was eight years old who gives a flying fuck
I played the first Half-Life for the first time when I was like five
My first video game was Doom 2
My first video game was Doom 2
may i have your autograph
my first games were shit like red faction, halo, and oddworld
I have very faint memories of some kind of educational game featuring a worm as its main character.
My parents started me off with a bunch of educational games like Reader Rabbit and Learning in Toyland. I don't even remember how Learning in Toyland worked but this image hit me with a wave of nostalgia when I saw it. I believe my first real video game was a Buzz Lightyear game on PC. My parents tried to keep my games age-appropriate, but they kind of stopped caring around middle school.
I played the original Wolfenstein when I was about 4-5 years old. Along with Halloween Harry/Alien Carnage. Anyway, I keep thinking maybe Valve originally wanted to wait years so they could try to have a new engine to promote innovation or something along those lines, like they did with Source. But we've waited nearly double the time compared to the gap between HL1 and HL2. But we know it probably doesn't even quite take that long in this day and age. The company definitely changed their focus, and probably got heavily distracted by other title successes. For whatever specific reasons, they simply stopped caring about the Half-Life franchise. Workers need to have some degree of interest and commitment to jump in to a project like that, and again, for unknown, or at least vague reasons, the game just never materialized. I'm not sure if I'd be surprised or not to actually hear the game has been stuck in development hell. Would seem like a waste of Valve resources to keep shelving such an iconic game. Conspiracy and PR theories aside, I really just think they essentially lost interest, or they have interest, but no agreement on where they want to go with it. So no real work has been put in to it.

this is not what i expected to be the center conversation in this thread at all
I guess that's because if you point out that it's sort of silly that one child is the reason we need half life 3 instead of an entire gaming community you get called out for being a heartless monster who probably has a baby furnace in your basement.

What about puppies and kittens? Does it use a DNA test to determine if it's human? What about little people? These are important questions.
my first game was one of the unreal tournaments, i would just start up matches with no bots and explore the maps :v: I also have distinct memories of some game about a mouse solving puzzles that I've never been able to find since then
