No one mentioned anything about it being because they're based in the UK. Here in the UK we have tabloid newspapers so biased they make Fox look like a scientific journal.
This.
See: The Sun, the MacKenzie years
A perfectly unbiased news channel would be boring as shit.
But would give you the truth, which is what matters from a news channel.
Yeah because that's totally possible.
Well, no, I was just saying that in a sort of, 'Nothings perfect, get used to it way'.
I don't even like corporate/national news, it's boring. If I give a fuck, I'll read it on the web. Not saying sources on the web are unbiased, but it's easier to spot the fact from opinion.

Because the news is supposed to be entertaining...

If you find what's happening in the world around you boring, you are a strange person. Or an incredibly lucky one.
Fox is worse.
I prefer the daily show and the Colbert report for my news. John Stewart was just rated the most trusted news anchor in America because of how little bias his show has toward anything

Yes the internet is much more reliable
At least if news stations completely make shit up they can get sued
Because the news is supposed to be entertaining...
That's how you get ratings, that's how you make money.
Not saying that should be the goal of informing, but news-corporations strive for their cash.
Because the news is supposed to be entertaining...
Duh, how else are they gonna get ratings. :saddowns:
That's how you get ratings, that's how you make money.
Unless you're the BBC.
I prefer the daily show and the Colbert report for my news. John Stewart was just rated the most trusted news anchor in America because of how little bias his show has toward anything
I watch the show for laughs.
Unless you're the BBC.
The BBC does need to maintain high viewing figures though
If you find what's happening in the world around you boring, you are a strange person. Or an incredibly lucky one.
Again, I drift through news on Facepunch and other web sources, I didn't say I'm isolated from the rest of the world's problems. Half of the time though, I don't really give a fuck if someone shot up a school in some area far away, it doesn't concern me. Sounds cold, but I really mean it.

But the popularity of their news doesn't directly affect their income.
CTV (Canadian Television) News is pretty un-biased. I've never once seen them have some stupid opinionated conversation with a guest, or go on about what's wrong or right. They pretty much just say what happened and move on, and when they have a guest on they just ask what's going on, and for some insight.
But alas, the US doesn't really watch Canadian news channels, since they are "Boring".
Like.. fuck.. it's news.
Here's what CTV news is like:

They need it to be popular otherwise they can't justify a universal license fee
But the popularity of their news doesn't directly affect their income.
If I were a British taxpayer, and BBC all of a sudden became a replicate of Fox, I sure as hell would say something, I wouldn't just let my taxes go to them.

Yes, but if their income was through advertisements the affects of ratings on income would be much greater.

CTV is probably the most unbiased. They dont have really "recognizable" news anchors. No one pushing agendas. But mostly because there really isnt anything to be biased about in Canada. Canada just doesn't care that much.

Then they aren't going to become a replica of fox are they?
I prefer the daily show and the Colbert report for my news. John Stewart was just rated the most trusted news anchor in America because of how little bias his show has toward anything
I love those shows and not to Jarate on your parade, but that was from an online TIME magazine poll, I really doubt America as whole trusts Jon Stewart like the online crowd does.
Then they aren't going to become a replica of fox are they?
You never know.
Then they aren't going to become a replica of fox are they?
What he said.
he being petieng, not tarkata

Because the online crowd is much more informed. We come across news all the time on the internet and we have many, many outlets to choose from.
Because the online crowd is much more informed. We come across news all the time on the internet and we have many, many outlets to choose from.
I am not saying more informed, I am saying it's a younger generation that actually watches Comedy Central.
You never know.
Well, what are you arguing exactly? You just said if they became biased people would stop paying money, so they don't have a reason to be biased, but you're arguing that they are biased?
Also, I'm not saying BBC is 100% unbiased. They just have less of a reason to be biased.
Yes, but if their income was through advertisements the affects of ratings on income would be much greater.
Short term, yes
Long term, no
CTV is probably the most unbiased. They dont have really "recognizable" news anchors. No one pushing agendas. But mostly because there really isnt anything to be biased about in Canada. Canada just doesn't care that much.
I wouldn't say we don't care that much. I understand the generalization, but I would say that as a whole, we aren't brainwashed into political parties here as much as other countries, which are going to remain unnamed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we're any smarter as a whole than other countries when it comes to recognizing bias as opposed to other countries, I'm just saying we're smarter as a whole when it comes to recognizing bias as opposed to other countries.
It's really sad how people here (America) identify themselves so strongly with one party. They seem to have a case of "I am right you are always wrong." It shouldn't be so difficult to find a middle ground.
