[QUOTE=RR_Raptor65;17945966]Been awhile since the last update, I know. I needed a break, carving out that barrel inlet really makes a mess of your knuckles. But it's done, and I cut an inlet and drilled a hole into the stock to hold the ramrod.
And just so you can get a better idea of just how big this gun is:

Are you gonna do rifling for the barrel?

No. Read the OP.
Even if I wanted/were able to rifle the barrel, it is too thin walled to do so. The breech of the barrel is very thick steel, but the muzzle is as thin as a shotgun barrel.
I'm really hoping to have this done before the 31st, and at the rate it's going that may very well happen. This is literally the final stretch here, the only big job left is to cut the inlets for the lock and sideplate.
good luck with making it in time for halloween! (your going to need it!)
Finished carving the top of the stock. Still deciding if I want to narrow the lock panel a little or leave it be. It's surprisingly well balanced as well, I hadn't expected it to be anywhere near balanced.

I ended up breaking down and narrowing the stock. I think it's for the best since it isn't as wide, and the grip actually feels very fitting with the hand, I doubt it would have been so with a wider stock.

So that's all that was left for the form of the stock, now I just have to cut the inlets for the lock, sideplate and pan, cut and nail on a steel buttplate, attach the trigger guard and make a barrel band. This will definitely be done and firing before the week is out. Tomorrow I'll make a buttplate and a barrel band so I can cook them, the pan and the trigger guard and get the metal parts all done before I start inletting again.
Wow, that looks really nice.
Lookin pretty sexy.
Well I didn't get around to doing much today. The lure of Halloween horror movie specials on the TV was too great to resist. I did cut an inlet for the pan which took a lot less time than I thought it would and make a pattern for the barrel band, so that's set, I may still go out and make the barrel band at least. After this movie anyway.
what film is it by the way?
It was Wrong Turn 2 or something like that. Had redneck mutants killing people with axes and shit, typical Halloween slasher.
awesome!
I got the barrel band formed and welded. I'm REALLY happy with how it came out too, really nice fit. I thought I would be out there for at least an hour and a half adjusting it so it fit snugly but it slid right on there the first time no problem. I also thought I'd have to pin it on, but it's on so tight it's not going anywhere.

Still very rough, needs filing here and there, ends sanded and a polish, but other than that it's good to go. I also finished the buttplate, I just have to nail that sucker on and it'll be done too.
only 24 hours left!
Looking beautiful. Hope it turns out well.
Please build this next.

Ah, a Punt Gun. But I have something else in mind for my next project, I'll go into more detail once the Matchlock is done. Even if I don't get it done today, I'll probably finish it over the weekend.
shoot a pumpkin with it please?
It'll have to be loaded with shot if I do, I don't have a mould to make balls.
I wish I was you.
Inletting work is going fast, but I'm done for the night. I need to get a candle burning so I can blacken the back of the lock. This is a technique to mark where to remove material, the flame of the candle leaves black soot on the metal, which then sticks to the wood where ever the metal touches it.

The buttplate and barrel band are also totally finished now, but the buttplate will wait until the stock is stained and sealed. I'm hopefully going to get some stain and sealer tomorrow.
awesome
:iia:
That's awesome.
Haven't been doing much with it, I got a nice little eye injury that has me in a bit of a bad mood, mostly because it's in my good eye. But I did a bit of cutting and got the sear to fit down in the stock, now I just have to inlet the lockplate itself and move on to the trigger and sideplate.
i hope you get better soon.

Didnt you hurt yourself in the eye at your last project ?. I remember it being some kind of molten metal accident.
God damn that's cool.
