You need to make a mega thread of all your homemade stuff, like the knife, armour and pak40 or something. Also a picture of your workshop would be sweet. Just a thread of all your crazy homemade projects.
Nah, I don't really have enough projects to warrant a megathread. My next project will be enough of a megathread anyway, a very long one at that. For now I'm focused on getting the Matchlock firing, and I have that computer due in on Wednesday to run the Plasma CAD, so after that I'll enter the research phase. I don't really want to say anything more until I'm sure I can get the resources I need since it's an enormous and somewhat dangerous undertaking.
The other alternatives I have lined up include a late period one handed sword, a wheellock, a breastplate or a fiberglass RC model of a plane I made in Garry's Mod awhile back.
This is some really cool stuff. I wish that my school has metal working classes. :(
Remember that guy that made a modelsteam engine and was awarded gold member?
That's what you deserve mate

How could I have missed this? How long ago was it?

What exactly is your next project? Get some pictures of your workshop

It was a while ago, I think he's inactive now.

I still have to email the guy and hopefully get blueprints, if I can't find any then the project doesn't happen.
The Matchlock barrel is in at a gunsmith to get that dent that UPS left near the muzzle fixed. Must have been a pleasant surprise for a guy who usually works on abused AKs and AR15s.
Some pictures of the shop too:

Finally got out and fired the Matchlock, and it is a real joy to shoot.

How's the recoil? Shouldn't be too severe considering the size.
It feels like someone giving you a hard shove in the shoulder, it's a very slow heavy recoil, not at all hard or sharp. Same for the report, it's actually very quiet, but has a deep thump. Surprisingly accurate too, and when that ball hits something it is just devastating, I shot a small tree and felled it in a single shot.
Glad to see the musket went well!
You ever thought of making your own musket system?
I'm doing some work on this live in my shop right now if anyone wants to watch.
EDIT:
Too late, you missed it. Anyway, as to why the work was being done, I spent the other day tightening up the lock, adding a washer that sits in a groove inside the serpentine to keep it from tilting outward. But I didn't get the groove right so I removed it.
Then today I went to a range to fire it (Much to the interest of all the shooters there with their puny little plastic guns) and the lock finally broke. Luckily it wasn't fatal for the musket and I was able to get one shot off with the lock and one just by stabbing the match into the pan with my bare hand (And burned myself in the process). So I went in and was able to fix all the problems it was having, hopefully there won't be any more that pop up next time.
Can you send this out to your friends list and not post it in a really onld thread? it would mean the world to me.
If you were online at the time I would have.
Amazing craftsmanship
Woah
I'm sorry, what time did you broad cast?
Wow this is amazing! Although I think now you need to get yourself a uniform from the same time that musket is from.
That's the plan. I already have most of it figured out, I just have to design a breastplate.
When I go to make that I'll be able to start the webcam and keep it online for a few hours. I have the steel and I'll be able to cut the plate out on my CNC machine I just need to make a new dishing bowl.
Looks surprisingly bad-ass.
Cool. i just noticed you put out a video... lots of other people probebly don't know either and want to see it...
What gun is that on the side of the 4x4?
That was a Mini-14 Carbine, we also had an M1 Garand with us that day on the back of my Quad.
And rather than bump the Wheellock thread just yet, I finally got around to making a stock design for it:

It's based on a German design and modified slightly to fit my lock, but the profile is the same as the original 15th century gun. This kind of Wheellock might represent the musket of a wealthy officer for use as a combat weapon as the original was not ornate, unlike most Wheellocks you see which are engraved from the muzzle to the buttplate.
That thing is fucking beautiful, lovely stain too.
that...is...fucking incredible. there is no smiley or macro to show how incredibly awesome that is.
