Teen here, been playing violent videogames and watching violent movies since I was 2, and I can assure you that I know better than to shoot and murder people. Stop assuming that any child that watches violent stuff will become a psychopathic murderer.
It's usually bad parenting that causes kids to think out of shape like that, most of the "bad" kids in my school have never even played videogames, and most of them unfortunately have a step-mom or step-dad, making it difficult for family love to spread.
postal 2 is a parody
postal 1 is a classic and does not glorify violence in any way (it was added a good decade after its initial release)
hatred is a deplorable, disgusting 'game' and valve is 100% in the right to stop it being published on their service.

So because its old means its no longer offensive? So Hatred can get on Steam in 17 years?

I like how someone pointed out how pants-on-head fucking stupid this is and yet you repeated it anyways
Saying "postal 2 is a parody" is literally equivalent to those moronic prank videos where they can give soneone PTSD for something stupid.
"COMEON DUDE ITS JUST A PRANK"
And Manhunt? What about Manhunt? That's on Steam.
What about The Binding of Isaac? That game is filled with violence, parental abuse, and religious blasphemy. If I was Christian I would surely be offended.
Postal isn't the only violent video game.
What about SAW: The Video Game? That's on Steam, and I'm sure it's got no shortage of grotesque deaths.
could use the classic argument for manhunt, which makes sense as Manhunt 2 isn't on steam.
maybe valve have changed their internal policies between allowing manhunt and now. Though, it has never been valve's policy to allow games rated adult-only. For the most part, AO games are porn games, but Manhunt 2 is Adult Only despite not being about sex. In fact, it's basically the same as Hatred.
or, as i mentioned earlier, the rules for offensive content with greenlight are different to games valve choose to publish themselves (for whatever reason)
so that's my best guess - Valve doesn't allow AO games, Hatred was looking to be rated as such (due to the game Manhunt 2 which is a recent game, rated AO and similar to Hatred) and/or Valve has a tighter policy on greenlight games due to how it works
Every pyramid is built by bricks.
But if no bricks exist to begin with then you cant build shit now can you?
sorry maybe i didnt emphasise the right word
yes, removing a game because it's offensive is technically censorship, but valve isn't actively censoring their platform. This is a one-off.
in fact, this has already been shown earlier in the thread and in the video with all the people clamouring about how valve removes this but not postal or gta or cod or whatever.
So because they censor once it's fine eh
Does anyone know that the devs already said its not solely going to be mass genocide but actually has a reason to why the main character thinks and acts like that. Like something extremely tragic happened to him. its a lot better than like postal 1 where you play as a schizo guy.
Can someone help me find a game that glorifies bank robberies and rewards you for killing hundreds of cops on steam?
Valve has become more and more of a faceless company.

I knew they could only stay a good company for so long.
Their decisions in the past could be seen as selfless and 'for the community' as in they didn't benefit anyone but the fans, and that's what I loved about them, but nowadays they've made less and less decisions for those reasons. They're turning into the business suits that we all hate and we should have expected it with a company with so much power. This act is just another mistake that's slowly making the community dislike them, but no doubt the summer sales will put them back on the pedestal.
I know I sound dramatic but it seems like every year, valve's making more and more choices that seem out of the ordinary for them. Like, at this point I can't even tell if it's the same people working there anymore.

wow how the FUCK has this been on steam??? its so offensive!!

In a game where you can pee on everything and the game is about getting your daily groceries and stuff, you think that it's not a parody?
Have you played or even seen a play-through of Postal 2?
how is removing one game designed to be offensive and controversial actively censoring their platform?

Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication or other information which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by governments, media outlets, authorities or other groups or institutions.
The better question is which part of that ISN'T censorship? And if you're putting it that way, isn't removing it just taking their bait?

Valve took it up the butt, go vote now!

We're talking about the violence side you twat, about how it allows you to do violent things yet it got Greenlit unlike Hatred.

Valve im highly offended and disturbed, take it down now.
Ban Call of Duty, it has the Nazi symbol.
Can't do it? Why not?
"If they didn't want it on the [greenlight] service they wouldn't vote for it"
I agree with him on everything but I think this statement has seen a handful of exceptions
steam reserves the right to do what they want, but at least be consistent and transparent if you're going to pull these moves
That's exactly what he's saying though. He said the people voted for it and it got Greenlit, and like you said if it broke any rules and shouldn't have been there in the first place, they should come forward with why and it should have been clear in the first place.
What do you mean exactly?
They already re-added it, I really don't know what they intended to achieve with all of this anyways. It was just a clusterfuck from the beginning all the way until now, and will still be speculated on tomorrow. They are already notorious for not giving answers to pretty much anything else they do, why would they respond to this in this particular way? What happened? It's just a weird, and rather pointless, situation with no clear goal or reasoning.

You're fucking with us right now. You can't be serious about this and be on Facepunch of all places at the same time, come on now.
It's just a video game, and it could be any other form of media and would have the same implications for what it may be implying (if you believe it to be acceptable something is seriously wrong regardless, even if you're only a child in which case you really shouldn't be taking part in any of these anyways). If people take whatever that medium may be seriously and use it to attempt to justify their actions, something bad was bound to happen regardless of whether or not they ever came into contact with the game or whatever other form of media. It was just an excuse to begin with, and if something is finally pushing you over the edge to commit a mass murder or any other hate crime it delves far deeper than a video game, or a movie, or book.

Hi, Jaroslaw. (Destructive Creations creative director)
Yesterday I heard that we were taking Hatred down from Greenlight. Since I wasn't up to speed, I asked around internally to find out why we had done that. It turns out that it wasn't a good decision, and we'll be putting Hatred back up. My apologies to you and your team. Steam is about creating tools for content creators and customers.
Good luck with your game.

So because postal 1 is a classic it is somehow different?
does murder lose it's edge after a decade?

i'd argue murder loses it's edge as it has lesser polygons/doofy animations, but that's just my own opinion
