Hand it in at a police station or something. It isn't fair at all to take someone's property when it probably just fell out of their pocket, and they're probably desperately trying to find it.
Heck, I recently lost a pretty much brand new phone about a month ago, but someone decided to take it instead of handing it in, so I had to pay £100 to replace it on the insurance, and waste a month on my contract. So think about what you're doing, as I know after my experience it isn't fair to let it happen to anyone else. Get a job and buy your own MP3 player, instead of stealing someone elses.

You know, the way I see it; if they can't take of their expensive shit then that's their problem. I always make sure I have everything secure with me, especially when I'm out in public. From checking my pockets for keys, iPod Touch, earbuds, wallet, and my wallet's contents; I always make sure things are there and won't get out of my pockets easily.

Shit happens. Even if you do find something it would make you the better person to ask around and see if anyone has lost it. If no one claims it then it's yours. Automatically claiming it as yours is childish and irresponsible.

If you make a legitimate attempt to find the owner and no one claims it after a week or so, then yea I'd keep it.
don;t take shit and keep it if it's not yours. The owner is probably going insane that he/she lost it. If you lost something (like your car or whatever the hell you have) you would be pissed off too.
