It's not redbox. It's online stores. They closed down almost every Blockbuster video rental stores in my city, but their website is thriving. Why have 500+ stores across the country when you could have 1 single site that caters to them. You only need to employ less then a fraction of people to keep the business running online then it did in physicality
It's a shame, really. I actually liked Movie Gallery but now they're all closing down.
Redboxes are getting games soon too, $2 a night
Wasn't Red Box also the name of that one "game collection" some guy was making in the Video Game subsection?
It's a $1.15 where I live. :wtc:
Hollywood video's have been going out of business for a while.... The one near me closed a long time ago.
Funny thing is they will blaim it on pirates alone.
I really don't understand why people like Netflix or redbox. I understand redbox a bit more than netflix. With netflix, I don't want to start a que and wait days / weeks for my movies to finally arrive, and they won't stream the good old movies online that I can easily find in a local video store. With redbox, the selection is so fucking tiny I swear I have more movies in my living room than one of them. They don't have the old movies to watch, either. It's all new releases. Fuck new releases. Some are great buy 80% are dumb shit that doesn't need to pay attention to, and why should I have to sacrifice my ability to watch great classics like Patton, Casablanca, The African Queen, Holiday Inn? Netflix sucks, redbox sucks, blockbuster is fine but they're going bankrupt all over the place. rip movie stores

I was thinking about getting a job at a Movie Gallery, low and behold they shut it down.
Amount of stolen credit cards increases 500% and movies not taken back to redbox.
Maybe not, a big problem with the redboxes are that they are constantly out of popular movies. They'll have to place more machines, costing more money, whereas a rental store can just order more copies.
Yep, that's going to save them. :downs:
A Movie Gallery closed here too, now I know why
The world is changing, the canals were bankrupted by the railways and those in turn were nearly bankrupted by the car and aeroplane. By the end of this decade even the redbox will be gone, in favour of just downloading it on-line. Plus cinemas will gradually die out over time in my opinion.
Gladly I have no Redboxes or anything like that here. This was the first time that I even heard of one.
It's a $1.15 where I live. :wtc:
Tax, right?
Aren't there some codes out there to get a free rential?
Those Redbox guys are geniuses, maybe it's a nice idea to implement here. It's nice that movie stores are closing doors they really make no sense nowadays. I see some of you people complaining about the lack of "classics". Don't worry, more sooner than later a smart guy will realize the business potential of this shortage and create a "classic rental". Gotta love free market.
Now that I think about it you are right. There won't be that many places to get older movies because of Redbox.
Not very many, but Netflix has a lot of very old movies on DVD or streaming surprisingly. I think it'll improve with time too, as the industry moves to digital distribution. [editline]10:27PM[/editline]
Aren't there some codes out there to get a free rential?
McDonalds does promotions with large soft drinks occasionally around here. You need a credit card, email, and its a one night rental as usual.
more or less 25 bucks is the cost of what RedBox paid for the DVD.
That's the whole point. If you keep it that long it assumes you want to buy it, and you've essentially paid the cost of the DVD. They don't mind if you keep the DVD, because you paid for it.
op! = Hyperbole
what?

For them, they're probably paying $3 per DVD or something ridiculously low for the bulk amount they buy.
This is the problem I see with society. We keep finding ways to do things easier, requiring less people. And less people are needed. Like robotic manufacturers and stuff.
This is the problem I see with society. We keep finding ways to do things easier, requiring less people. And less people are needed. Like robotic manufacturers and stuff.
Communism is dead. That's the way forward: cheaper, better, more efficient.
I used a prepaid debit card and got myself Transformers for only a $1 when It first came out. Still have it today and have no plans on returning it.
I use Redbox every so often.
We have a Movie Gallery here where I live. The whole chain has gone under and is selling their stock at a discount, new or old. Its nice actually, but I hate to see it go under. The problem is, its the ONLY rental place around here, and I believe it'll be the last, unless Blockbuster comes in or something.
There is no way any of these stores are going to expand in this market. If that takes too long, stream it.
The local movie gallery where I live closed down too, there isn't a redbox within 20 miles of my town.
