they fucked it
It sounds like Saber Interactive is involved with this as well. What is with iD/Bethesda hiring second hand Halo devs to help create their multiplayer? I know that most of the people who worked on Quake 3 have probably moved on, but come on.
Had they rebooted Quake with the Lovecraftian styling, people would be mad that it's not like Arena. You can't please everybody. And before we get our panties in a bunch, we should see how this "class-based" system is implemented, and if they keep the elements that make up Quake multiplayer like weapon pickups or advanced movement mechanics. Also, apprantley "FPS with character abilities" equals "Overwatch clone", fucking bravo guys.
Of course I didn't expect Beth to do anything good with Quake. They've ruined Quake Live soon as they got their hands on it. Hoping they'll make something good was out of the question. And lo behold - it's an FPS ASSFAGGOTS. Enough said. Ranger looks cool though.
Around 0:18, you can see Ranger picking up the Lightning Gun after he kills the dude that was holding the weapon. So yeah, it doesn't look like each character is going to be locked to a specific loadout and it seems like you're going to be able to pick up different weapons just like in Quake 3, so there's that, at least.
Had they rebooted Quake with the Lovecraftian styling, people would be mad that it's not like Arena. You can't please everybody.
Why? It can have Lovecraftian stylings and great multiplayer component, Quake did.
How's the Quake community doing nowadays anyway? It still got a few dedicated members I'm assuming.. I miss the days where I went to LAN parties for Quake and Unreal Tournament..
There's always a couple hundred Quake Live players online, up to a thousand at peak, but it's definitely the smallest it's ever been. There are people trying to push Reflex as the successor to Quake 3, and it deserves to be, but it's only doing like 60 concurrent players at peak times.
If they really wanted powers and shit they could have just had a bigger emphasis on powerups and keep it at that.
Happy for the people who wanted an MP focused Quake and after TNO and Doom Im not gonna cry about it before I even get footage but as someone who was hype for Lovecraftian Quake 1 style reboot this sucks. Again more power to MP guys but I guess for me this was a hope for of a TNO/DOOM style reboot that i shouldnt have gotten any hype over. Also Ranger reminded me of a Pixar character with how large his features were.
I think people are passing judgement too quickly. Just because it'll have classes doesn't mean it'll play anything like a hero shooter. Seriously, we saw no gameplay, calling it an "FPS ASSFAGGOTS" is just jumping the gun. The classes system could just be a glorified loadout system. And nobody said this system would be forced, there could very easily be an optional mode for not having it. My only real complaint is that it's not the Lovecraftian style and it's multiplayer focused. While I understand that Quake has always been primarily MP, not being able see that style but with Doom's visuals is such a missed opportunity. Seriously I would've killed to see some of those monsters brought up to today's standards.
Why are you guys suprised? I feel that any talk of Quake 1 is vastly overshadowed by people talking about how they loved Quake 3 Arena.
if doom is anything to go by, if everyone just makes themselves very vocal towards this they'll probably change it tbh.
what did they change in doom before launch?
Why did they think the Quake fanbase would something that's not Quake?
because people usually like more than 1 exact game?
what did they change in doom before launch?
afaik they changed the movement speed significantly because people complained about how slow it looked. they also changed the cacodemon and actually gave it color because that was a HUGE deal to a lot of people. also, it's obviously not before launch, but they already confirmed that they're going to be changing the multiplayer significantly now that they have the rights to it again because of all of the complaints people have towards it.
Why are you guys suprised? I feel that any talk of Quake 1 is vastly overshadowed by people talking about how they loved Quake 3 Arena.
After TNO and Dooms success a lot of people expected id to continue the trend of back to basics. Although Quakes MP has always been is primary selling point after the stellar quality of those games SP they(including me) wanted more. Quake was simply the next game in the id cycle to get remade, the ips popularity had died down and since people generally dont give a shit about the Strogg stuff after Quake 4 a reboot back to the Eldritch stuff seemed like the coolest and most interesting way to take the series, espacially with modern day graphics. It was more people had high hopes rather than average expectations. [editline]13th June 2016[/editline] Now to get my hopes up for a Commander Keen reboot that strengthens the Wolfenstein/Doom link even more after New Colossus
I mean I would prefer if it didn't have hero based stuff but I'm willing to let them sell it to me with gameplay footage. I wasn't hyped for DOOM at all but that ended up being one of the best things I've played all year. I'll give it more time before I write it off
To be honest, if there was going to be Quake, I wouldn't expect a genuine singleplayer Quake announced a month after the launch of Doom. The fact that it's a multiplayer-only PC game makes it sound like it's essentially Quake Live's sequel but with its own work and design rather than being a modded Quake 3. Seems like an attempt to see if people really care for Quake still, or at least cash in on its popularity seeing as they know people want more Quake too. no, not quake two [sp]enough though i don't mind the strogg[/sp]
It's fucking dead, Jim. You're better than this Bethesda/id, why are you guys trying to copy the other guy? Nobody wanted this. Nobody.
Ooooo, will they get Fatal1ty to endorse this while reviving the Gamerfood™ brand? :vs:
remember when wolfenstien got shat on at every game confrence till people played it and loved it. remember when doom got shat on at e3 and it became one of the greatest modern FPS games there's a pattern here.
remember when wolfenstien got shat on at every game confrence till people played it and loved it. remember when doom got shat on at e3 and it became one of the greatest modern FPS games
A lot of people wanted a modern singleplayer quake game. Not yet another arena shooter.
Why did they tease Wolfenstein 2 instead of just confirming its real that was literally the only thing I wanted from this conference and I was denied
If this shit doesn't have strafejumping or any kind of movement system similar to the other quake games, shit will be dead on arrival

Remember the Doom multiplayer which was outsourced to Halo devs and had loadouts, which people also hated? This is a class based multiplayer shooter outsourced to another Halo dev. Loadouts are very likely, even if there was a pickup in the prerendered trailer. I'm sensing a pattern here too. Namely: Singleplayer: Awesome Multiplayer: Forgettable
have they said whos developing it yet?
Saber Interactive, they worked on Halo Online, Master Chief Collection and Anniversary Edition previously. Seriously, what is it with Id/Bethesda and Halo Multiplayer developers?

All the games they've worked on that weren't Halo games got average to shit review scores. Abandon all hope.
