Having just jumped into the original Quake thanks to GoG, I'm enjoying the living shit of it and wish that went back to the twisted, darker and lovecraftian-ey themes of the original as opposed to the straight up sci-fi of the later ones. Also seriously guys, it sucks this isn't Quake 1 HD 2016 but go back to the old Quake, somehow it holds up today and is still an amazing FPS.
not too concerned about this considering they made quake wars: territories -- at least this one might be more of an arena shooter than that. hell, the idea of an arena shooter - moba sounds a little interesting if anything there's still reflex, quake live, unreal tournament, etc etc

I just noticed something. Elder Scrolls Legends is a Card Game based on a popular fantasy series, like Warcraft. And now we have a "Hero Shooter" like Overwatch. Seems Beth REALLY wants to buck horns with Blizzard for some reason.
It's certainly a departure from the original but it seems they're keeping abilities down to movement and such, if that's the case I can live with it, or at least give it a chance

Plus if you've looked at Legends you'll see it's very different mechanically to Heartstone, I'd compare it more to a complex and nuanced version of TW3's Gwent. But even then that's being a bit reductionist. Besides, Beth competing with Bliz is suicide. Blizzard simply isn't part of any competitive market, it's literally impossible to compete with them, they're freaking Blizzard, and Bethesda couldn't even if they wanted to.

One of the characters has a wallhack ability from the start of the trailer. It would be cool if it WAS only movement based and it might be a little less agitating to hear. I just hope the game doesn't become a shitfest of rock, paper, scissors like OW is.
oh.....
another classic on the way
Had they rebooted Quake with the Lovecraftian styling, people would be mad that it's not like Arena. You can't please everybody. And before we get our panties in a bunch, we should see how this "class-based" system is implemented, and if they keep the elements that make up Quake multiplayer like weapon pickups or advanced movement mechanics. Also, apparently "FPS with character abilities" equals "Overwatch clone", fucking bravo guys.
For sure, I'd rather have another great SP experience like DOOM '16 or Wolfenstein TNO, and I'm pretty hesitant about the whole "class-based" bit, but it's entirely likely they won't fuck it up, too. We barely know anything about it, so we should at least wait until more details and some actually gameplay footage is released. It seems like no matter what game it is, everyone just immediately starts shitting all over it. They didn't fuck up the new DOOM, maybe, possibly, they won't fuck this up either.
Any attempt to compete with Overwatch in the same genre is doomed to fail, because OW's production value just dwarfs everything else. However there's nothing that has done Quake better than Quake, so please give us that. In the meanwhile I'll be playing Arcane Dimensions tyvm
As someone who's not particularly against sexified female character designs, I feel we need some more beefy women and etc in video games to break up the abundance of generically sexy women.
I really don't care, because you'll mostly see them getting gibbed.

Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake were essentially sequels to one another back in the day, and their gameplay was all rather similar. Now that we've had reboots of Wolf and Doom, they were vaguely similar first person shoot everything you can, find secrets and also have bits of rpg mechanics involved. Granted they are pretty decent games, and I'm sure a Quake game in that style would be decent too. However, if they made a Quake game in that style, it would probably end up being far too similar to Doom, especially if they made it with the Strogg stuff in mind and not the Lovecraftian stuff. While a Lovecraftian Quake game in the style of the new Doom and Wolf would be really good, I think that might be too hard to pull off well. You also have to consider that Bethesda probably don't want to sell 3 different games that involve shooting lots of things while also having secrets and vague rpg mechanics. Modern game publishers prefer to have a diverse amount of assets to sell to the public, you can notice this a lot now, everyone has to have the card game, everyone has to have the moba, everyone has to have the shooting game, everyone has to have the action rpg, everyone has to have the MMO, etc. Perhaps a modern singleplayer (and multiplayer) Quake wouldn't be in their best interest.
What a fucking sucker punch after the great surprise that doom was, who asked for this? quake multiplayer is still alive and well and I doubt what was missing from it is class based gameplay. What IS missing from modern FPS are fantastic singleplayer campaigns, like the one we got in doom(if a bit short). Bethesda really shat the bed the last couple years.
