tell me more about these deep subtle meanings to keep hearing about?
Hipsters have a habit of doing it when they talk about music.
Hipsters have a habit of doing it when they talk about music.
Example?
Example?
Well I've seen them do it on /mu/ a lot. Any time someone didn't like a /mu/ essential album, they listened to it wrong and it has deep meanings that you only hear after multiple listens. Shit like that annoys me :/
I still don't get how this relates to you thinking people enjoying field recordings is for the sake of being cool and not actually enjoying the experience. Here's a tip, stop going on /mu/
Well I've seen them do it on /mu/ a lot.
so you've never actually been around hipsters to know what they talk about?
i'm late but you guys were talking about hipster chicks and did i not see a single mention of bright eyes? wtf guys im disappointed in you bright eyes is like hipster chick essentials
Here's a tip, stop going on /mu/
It's not that easy, man. :(
It's not that easy, man. :(
yes it is [t]http://tapmusic.net/lastfm/collage.php?user=doriol&type=3month&4x4=true&caption=true&playcount=true&artistonly=true[/t][t]http://tapmusic.net/lastfm/collage.php?user=doriol&type=3month&4x4=true&caption=true&playcount=true[/t]
It's not that easy, man. :(
Most people who even use /mu/ dislike it. You just stop typing in the address, and it's gone forever
/mu/ > FP a lot of the time. It's more active.
It's not that easy, man. :(
I have no idea what /mu/ is supposed to do. "sharethreads" make no sense. Why do they have priority and are supposed to be great? The only ok-ish thing it's produced is the charts.
"sharethreads" make no sense. Why do they have priority and are supposed to be great?
because people like sharing things and finding new stuff? that's like, absolute basic music knowledge that it's to be shared. no deep offense
because people like sharing things and finding new stuff? that's like, absolute basic music knowledge that it's to be shared. no deep offense
What distinguishes a sharethread from a regular thread?
What distinguishes a sharethread from a regular thread?
what doesn't distinguish it to you, though? that's what i'm failing to understand in this
I go on mu and all I see is a conversation occurring. There's no cohesive discussion/community of any kind.
What distinguishes a sharethread from a regular thread?
How are you struggling with this? A forum for music discussion has a thread in which they dump and share links and info on albums.
what doesn't distinguish it to you, though? that's what i'm failing to understand in this
Just tell me the process of discovering music on /mu/. The only thing I'm able to extract is the "essentials" chart. [editline]26th July 2012[/editline]
How are you struggling with this? A forum for music discussion has a thread in which they dump and share links and info on albums.
It's just a place where people dump links and hope for the best? Like a blogspot then?
I go on mu and all I see is a conversation occurring. There's no cohesive discussion/community of any kind.
to get the community on imageboards you usually have to lurk quite a bit
There's no cohesive discussion/community of any kind.
Yes there is. There is plenty of cohesive conversation. It's true that community may be lacking when compared to say here, but there is definitely a stronger culture. [editline]26th July 2012[/editline] Hugarh is butthurt I have an opinion :( [editline]26th July 2012[/editline]
Just tell me the process of discovering music on /mu/. The only thing I'm able to extract is the "essentials" chart. [editline]26th July 2012[/editline] It's just a place where people dump links and hope for the best? Like a blogspot then?
No. It seems like you're just trying to not understand this. It's as if the Review The Last Album You Listened to thread we have just added mediafire links. It is literally a more active and varied version of here.
It's clear that there's a culture, I'm just confused as to how people become a part of it. and also how I'm supposed to find a particular kind of music.
I go on mu and all I see is a conversation occurring. There's no cohesive discussion/community of any kind.
of course not. we're talking 4chan where you can generally be anonymous and do whatever without having a name unless you get a trip so it's really just going to be one time stuff and it just so happens others like that -- tbh the lack of an "actual community" (semantics! let's not get into it!) is the reason i left /mu/ myself in october but the amount of people it has makes passing music around a lot easier. sharethreads work in this format (iirc) artist - album >genre mediafire link and the album art posted in the initial image area of the post itself, and there's a lot of themed threads too (turntablism, metal, concept albums maybe, etc) is this detailed enough or must we go into something else tldr people post albums and find stuff what don't you understand
and also how I'm supposed to find a particular kind of music.
ctrl+f or themed threads or even making your own thread asking for recommendations
It's clear that there's a culture, I'm just confused as to how people become a part of it. and also how I'm supposed to find a particular kind of music.
You can make or wait for a sharethread with a specific genre. If you want to discuss a specific band you can look for a thread or make one. It doesn't work any differently.
It doesn't work any differently.
I discover music mostly using rym and whatcd. In addition to that, there's word of mouth, which last fm and this place is a big part of. (then there's blogspots and other things) Seeing as you people think it's a truly great place to discover music, I'll try it for myself. please explain why I'm seeing this.
Why were we arguing about hipster chicks and field recordings on the last page? Why were we discussing that hover hand picture? You can discuss off-topic things in forums with specific topics. Shocking, I know. [editline]26th July 2012[/editline] And if it weren't a great place to discover music then I'd say a huge amount of the music I listen to is completely void because the place I discovered them has it's own communal jokes.
I still don't get how this relates to you thinking people enjoying field recordings is for the sake of being cool and not actually enjoying the experience. Here's a tip, stop going on /mu/
I don't think people actually do that with field recordings specifically, I was exaggerating Field recordings are pretty good But also, /mu/ is a bit shit nowadays, it used to be better but now it's just there for feel threads and occasional genre-specific shares
okay, I'll try again. It makes sense to make this request... but what's with the replies?
They were responding to someone else in the thread if you read it. Not the OP.
It makes sense to make this request... but what's with the replies?
anonymity is what's with the replies. and like take_opal stated the reply format is fairly different than actual forums. the ">>#" in posts is quoting the post number in the thread. if you click it it'll take you to the post in that thread that was replied to and highlight it tbf i just ctrl+f'd "share" in the past few pages on /mu/ and i couldn't find any besides 1 30+ post one. i remember being able to find plenty a long time ago
