Not sure what it looks for. Doubt it's tags, but it seems to be the only explanation.
Maybe official albums?
almost none of the bands I listen to have more than a couple albums listed or any at all. and if they do the release date is off

I listen to one Touhou band, and it's because Fuki does their vocals, and she's probably the best power metal vocalist I know of

Maybe its just the style of Jap album covers that really stands out.
