The mixing style doesn't really fit the earlier heavy songs, but fits the later calm songs pretty well.

That's just the way foobar2000 was designed.

It was meant so you could just play music with the snap of a finger, no nonsense, but if you wanted/needed something (something basic like an equalizer or Last.fm support, or something more specialized like streaming to a Shoutcast server via Bluetooth) you could find (or make) a plugin for it.
