In my opinion we should have been established as a true democracy. Get rid of the major government and deal with everything on a "town council" basis. No more electoral college bullshit. That leads to a few people deciding the future of the country. This president can then appoint whoever he/she wants to their cabinet, setting up the country for a complete takeover.

its safer for professionals to make these weapons than for people to modify or build their own. People DO modify semi-automatics to make them full auto and that often leads to misfiring, ect.

True, but it's much easier to kill someone with a gun. Lots of people could defend themselves from a knife, but bullet dodging isn't widely practised today.

They have already. My father and I went to a surplus shop by my grandparents house that used to have a bunch of military shit, gas masks, ammunition, ammo cans, bdus, etc. They had hardly anything left. They said that ever since Obama has taken office, the media hasn't reported on it of course, but the military isn't selling off surplus anymore. Instead they see it more fit to destroy it. Seems like it could possibly be a step towards that.

There was once a ban on assault weapons In the us from 2000 to 2005. So what's the point? Been there, done that. There's no reason to try again. Plus, what are we stopping? People that are still stupid enough to rob a bank? The SWATS will get em, thats what their for. And what do we do with the SWATS if everyone cooperates? We just create wasted resources in the process. Also like everyone said the issue of gun fanatics, will I get arrested for just hiding an MP5 under my bed? Alot of people love guns, and that'll create riots against the ban. Overall, BAD IDEA.

I agree with you. The more and more you restrict on a person's freedom, they will fight back. Here's the catch, they will only fight back to a certain point. By this point the people restricting their freedom will have them brainwashed, and those restrictors will hold ultimate power. Referencing 1984 seems to connect well with this. Even when Winston and Julia think that they have the security to confide in O'Brien, he betrays them, and the public supports this betrayal. At one point all realistic hope was loss, everyone in this dystopia is pretty much fucked. If you take enough freedom away, there is nothing that can get it back.
