I dunno about you guys. But does this really matter?
sexism matters
To me it seems like its a ton of sheltered white kids making a big deal out of nothing. At least here on FP, I've never seen the sexism debate be so agitated anywhere else.
If anything we should all be worrying about the horrible business practices of EA and how unpaid overtime is not only common in the games industry but expected for most AAA games. Also the fact that so many developers get bought out by publishers and then all the employees are laid off, thats pretty despicable in my book.
the market isn't big enough? You don't know anything about economics if that is what you believe, frankly.
If the market for female oriented games was big enough we would have many female oriented games. That's how it works. Kinda ironic for you to say that I don't know anything about economics when you want to have supply before there's demand.
and again, females will relate to a female story more, I'm saying a woman does not have to write said female oriented story for it to be good, and I KNOW that it's "easier" for a women to right about women I already agreed with you on that. did you even read the post?
Nobody said it has to be a female to write said female oriented story did you even read any of my posts? I said women would have it easier, ie they would do it better.
Although society has an amazing effect on how we think and act (like deodorant or shaving of the legs), these trends wouldn't stick if they didn't appeal to our wants. It's pretty much scientifically proven that men are attracted to youthful women, with a small waist and bigger breasts. It's instinct to find a suitable mate, ect. Women are attracted to taller muscular men, and also are looking for one suitable mate, rather than multiple mates like men to bear the most children.

realdolls? don't know what this means exactly, but I respect women just as much as my male friends, but I least I can tell they are different from me, like to do different things, and act different in certain situations.
Yeah, they like different things because they're conditioned that way
People treat young girls and young boys differently and that leads to a different mindset
If you raise a girl as a boy, she will have an interest in boy things and vice versa, these preferences aren't ingrained on us from birth.

They tried that, the boy committed suicide after a lifetime of depression.
And there's plenty of people who give their children both boy and girl toys and most of the time they choose the ones corresponding with their gender.

Also explain existence of transgender people then. Surely girls raised as girls wouldn't think of being a man and vice versa.

"we can't have x if we have y"
just because we are discussing sexism in one thread doesn't mean there's room that EA's practices or shit like that that shit in another.
FUCK YEAH!
It's a bit sad but true. The technology field is about a men 10:1 guy, I think in all my computer/Tech courses there was 1 female who actually got a degree in some of the advanced classes.

I know you're not one for empathy and all that jazz but please tell me what is it about me that's so unreasonable?
You lot always complain about getting attacked for your opinions but so far I've seen a whole lot of ad hominem and not that many counter-arguments.
[editline]lmfao[/editline]
also you guys should know you're defending a huge mysoginyst who literally thinks straight people are discriminated against

You're the kind of person I like reading about in Maddox's hate mail section. You should send him some shitty letters.
guys, I think you're missing one important detail
there are actually games which are marketed for girly girl ultra feminine people
they're not big AAA games, and there's not a lot of them around, but they are there
so why is it they are so rare, you might ask
well maybe because nobody likes them
Words are action. Just as much as you just see it as complaining others see it as a venue to voice their distaste for the industry at large. This voice, if unified is powerful enough to make a change but is matter of factly being squelched like the guy in the video who just say "Shut up and fix it yourself." People here have said it before. The industry is marketing to the lowest common denominator, the public opinion if you will. Public opinion wont be changed by women working in the industry; It'll be changed by the public being enlightened in some way or another to the inherent problems within the system itself.
All we have to change is the way we think, and suddenly the world will change.
But there will never be change without changed thinking.

Yeah I didn't really know anything about this guy so I just went by what he said in the video. I apologize.
I still strongly disagree with the first part of the video though, he definitely has the right idea regarding women in the industry but I still don't think we should shun criticism like that. How can we improve if we reject it?
wow it's almost as if a person's personality and preferences are dependent on environmental factors and not biotruth instinctual bullshit
Jeez it sure would be weird if scientists found that people had different hormones that caused differing behavioral patterns, you'd then be completely wrong!
I could write a fucking thesis paper on how mention of the word "sex" on facepunch will trigger a dozen-page debate on oppression filled with terrible analogies, strawmen, and a lot of misunderstanding on both sides of the argument.
I dunno about you guys. But does this really matter?
it's just videogames, it doesn't matter! that means we don't have to try to change it at all, despite how wrong and awful it is.
it's just entertainment and fiction!
environmentally/culturally-built psychological pressures complexly interact with instinctual psychological pressures and one can overcome the other, who knew
