Genuine disliking of their music is acceptable, but hating for a narrow minded reason is wrong. I'm not talking about just The Beatles. I genuinely like The Beatles, but i dont have a deep affection for the whole world of Beatle. I have put my time into learning what theyre about because i like them and i have to say i like them more as a result of that. Dont bandwagon either way because you are just fooling yourself.
How anyone can care for this band today is a mystery to me. Especially if you're like 16 years old and the band has zero sentimental value to you. Kids are just actively choosing and forcing themselves to like the band in an attempt to gain some kind of respect that's non-existant outside their world. Ever tried discussing music with a Beatles fan? - I really like "The Beatles". - Oh. I don't care for them that much. - And you are also a complete moron. Now this goes for many more bands than just The Beatles. You will hear the same people praising Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, and will defend them to the end of time and will never under any circumstances recognize any flaws these groups/artists might carry. You see, they always pick the big names that everybody knows. Because what would the point in telling someone you like a band they've never heard of? Fuck the actual musical taste, we're here to gain rep! (Yes of course I'm generalizing and exaggerating, but I'm tired of beating around the bush...)
Sentimental value? Gaining Rep? What the actual fuck? Liking The Beatles does not make you closed to popular artists, unless that is what you are. I dont get, why you feel strongly about why people should NOT like The Beatles. Maybe I should stop liking Marvin Gaye, due to him being dead for 30 years and not many caring for it now, or maybe i just want to be unique here! Ha... I genuinely like the music, unless it is Merzbow, where is the problem?
i like the beatles and appreciate the innovations they made in the studio i have no idea why someone would have to force themselves to enjoy the beatles they have a lot of catchy tunes
It's because now a days people only say they like the Beatles in order to seem hip and cool with the kids because if you like the Beatles you're like, totally a hippy mannnn :downs:
What's with the sudden influx of people complaining about how overrated the Beatles are
People realized it is acceptable to complain about the Beatles without receive mass criticism, so they jump on the opportunity to do so.
George Harrison will make you like The Beatles, listen to his solo work.

I'm a "kid" by your definition and I like their music. I like Pink Floyd and Michael Jackson as much as I like Noir Désir, Jean Leloup, Brat'ya Grim and Quasar Wut-Wut. Which you've probably never heard about. Yellow Submarine has the tendency to get stuck in my head whenever I listen to it. I'm glad these bands get so much exposure though, otherwise I would never have been interested in music at all, as my parents don't care about it. Now wouldn't that have been sad?
You should be liking generic things like Justin Bieber and Eminem!! Not old school!! That may make you a better person!
I actually own Curtain Call. I bought it because I didn't know anything about music back then and it was popular. I never liked it. It's the censored version, too. :saddowns:
Eminem used to be one of the most reknowned artists of the time. Those days are passed....
You act like your opinion on people and music is fact. Can you stop fucking doing that? It's not. Also, don't act like liking one popular artist and another popular artist is any different.
Eminem used to be one of the most reknowned artists of the time. Those days are passed....
Nope still popular, just the industry churns out a million clones of everything remotely popular in the time it takes someone to write one song. [editline]03:29AM[/editline]
George Harrison will make you like The Beatles, listen to his solo work.
Solo work =/= the beatles.
You act like your opinion on people and music is fact. Can you stop fucking doing that? It's not. Also, don't act like liking one popular artist and another popular artist is any different.
It is personal preference. If you want to disagree go right ahead :v:
You should be liking generic things like Justin Bieber and Eminem!! Not old school!! That may make you a better person!
If you don't like the beatles you must like justin bieber.
How can anyone not like the Beatles?
If you don't like the beatles you must like justin bieber.
It was in relation to the post above that :frog:
Oh. The beatles being overrated. This is a topic which has never been discussed before. This is a topic which really deserves a big discussion because there is really no good answer which has ever been reached in the past before this thread was made. I can't wait to see how this turns out. The master debaters will have a very big question to answer in this thread because this question really deserves an answer. Nobody has ever asked for this answer before so I hope we finally get one. Really, what does "overrated" even mean? "Hey, I don't like this that much, it's all right but it doesn't make my ears bleed. OVERRATED"
I think the problem we're facing here is that the term "Overrated" implies that music can be rated objectively, which most of Facepunch has on numerous occasions concluded impossible. So while some just repeatedly accuse eachother for stating their opinion as fact, making sure the argument doesn't go anywhere, others just fling shit, making sure the debate stays hot. It all ends up in a pointless flamewar, basically
The Beatles are very overrated. But they're still brilliant.
The Beatles are very overrated. But they're still brilliant.
haw haw haw :smug:
Because a lot of people act like they're single handedly responsible for the rock genre and that they're incredibly original and many other things. I've just gotten tired of people wanking off to how good they are. IF you think so, fine, but I'm really tired of the fans I know talking about it.
Well they were incredibly original for their time, that's why they were so popular, all your other points are fine though.
Most people really like them, but I don't think they're all that great. Sure, they have some really good and inspiring songs and I'm sure that they contributed a lot to music today but that doesn't change the fact they aren't exactly my taste.
Well they were incredibly original for their time, that's why they were so popular, all your other points are fine though.
Exactly. If they were to come around today, I bet they wouldn't be nearly as popular.

Not if you like something or dislike something, but if one song has great composition and brilliant lyrics that is objective. Some of Bob Dylan's (not all of his stuff) has beautiful songwriting that is pure poetry, this is objectively true. Elton John's "Tumbleweed Connection" album has excellent piano composition, this is objectively true too. I'll reiterate that you do not have to enjoy the music I listed as examples, in fact you could hate it, but that wouldn't change the fact that there are some objectively good things in the music [editline]04:34PM[/editline]
Most people really like them, but I don't think they're all that great.
I like you
Aww, thanks :3:
Exactly. If they were to come around today, I bet they wouldn't be nearly as popular.
Well if they were still making music... I would think otherwise. Harrison's last album before he died was SUPERB, McCartney still makes great music and Ringo starr.. can still walk. :v:
Bro who cares if a band is 'overrated' or not? you should just let it be
