Granted both the Grand Theft Auto series and Saints Row series have a lot in common, however each has their own unique setting. Grand Theft Auto (in general) is serious, dark and gritty, while Saints Row is lighthearted, random, and more about doing as you please than following the storyline. As such, each is directed towards different types of audiences, those who want a straightforward shooter with an expansive story, or those who just want to have loads of fun, laugh, and blow things up. I don't see why you can't like both games to be honest; I've played both GTA4 and Saints Row 2 and found both to be enjoyable in their own right.
