Its stereotyping and only seeks to further ostracise mentally disabled people further from society. They make people with autism look like fucking weirdos and laugh along.
What gives you the impression that he has autism? And, again, I don't buy that the intention of this video was to get you to laugh. I don't see any humor in it at all, and that seems very intentional on their part. The subject comes across as a victim of circumstance rather than a punchline. [editline]30th May 2017[/editline]
It's literally just shitting on white males who have anxiety/ social disorders. Instead of being inclusive and trying to help them, like they try to help every other marginalized group, they instead marginalize this group themselves, on purpose. We all knew already that buzzfeed is just another one of the white male hating groups and the sooner they fuck off forever the better.
Like I've said, I don't think this video is shitting on him at all. The tone is almost tragic at points.
Was it really that mean and spiteful, though? It seemed less like they were making fun of him and more of just telling his story in an almost sympathetic manner.

It's literally just shitting on white males who have anxiety/ social disorders.
I think a big problem with this video is that it's tonally all over the place. I'm personally not even sure what message I was meant to derive from it. Overall it has a very downbeat sort of vibe, with what most can only gleam is a pretty depressing and meaningless ending. But throughout it seems light and jabby, presenting unrealistic scenarios and pushing stereotypes to further that vaguely sad message. I think the regular person watching this video would interpret it as a sympathetic view on a story a lot of people might relate to. Anyone vaguely familiar with buzzfeed and their tendency to mock the very demographic presented in this video will immediately see a more sinister motive in it's message or behind the motivation to it's creation, and I hardly blame them. Either way this video was meant to be interpreted, it was mistake for them to make it.
Do the writers at Buzzfeed really think that they have the right to call people "beta"?
This could have been a really good video. The guy could have started exercising and going out more, join a club or something then it could show him getting less and less awkward until he gets the girl. Instead Buzzfeed had to hate on men again.

So to people who don't know them and their biased tendencies already, it looks innocent.
I don't think it was as hateful to awkward men as most people are making it out to be, it does feel like that was the intention however.
What gives you the impression that he has autism?
I think this highlights my points well - a lot of people have come out of that video convinced the character has autism. I can totally see why, too, but it's my opinion that they had no intention of implying that at all. That's just one example of how haphazardly they handled the subject matter, which seriously damages it's credibility if it's intended to be a sympathetic and heartfelt story of a victim of circumstance.

The exact same Autistic weirdo narrative that has been pushed around for a while now, the video even generalises that people with the disorder are all the same at the end. If it really wanted to make a point about it rather than laugh at it I'm sure they would of got in contact with people in the know about the condition.

The reason they made it. If the actual message/point of the video is vague and hard to pinpoint, could the reason they made it be more ulterior? I dunno if I'm reaching here, but would it be dumb to assume it's a ploy to appeal more sympathetic towards a potential audience they may have lost over the years with constant mocking and scrutiny?

They handled the subject matter in a neutral, yet prodding way. They do this on purpose so that they can't be ridiculed on the basis that they did something unethical. They know how to cover their asses so they can argue they've done nothing wrong.

They just handled it in a very incompetent manner because they never had any genuine intentions. What you see as a passive aggressive play could very well just be a grossly incompetent project. At this point we're speculating heavily on the intention of filmmakers we don't really know.

All we have to go off is pretty much every other article that has ever come from buzzfeed. If we look at that, then take into account of the plethora of videos made about the struggles of marginalized people, white males have never been their focus of attention, you could really only interpret it in two ways. Either they are trying to cater to those who have pointed this out repeatedly to them in the past and have just done a half assed job at getting it right, or they truly are passive aggressively snarking out with the video. And at least to me, the thin layer of 'sympathy' that is displayed in this video seems really in-genuine, and more of a "look at this potential predator". I guess it all depends on how well you know buzzfeed and which side of the fence you sit on.
this just made me feel bad i dont understand why people find it so weird that not every 20 year old want to fuck all the time?
And at least to me, the thin layer of 'sympathy' that is displayed in this video seems really in-genuine, and more of a "look at this potential predator".
Above all else, this is the most concerning idea the video pushes forward. The implication is inarguable and you're absolutely right that it conflicts with any sympathetic view they're trying to push. Imagine going through a similar situation to the character of this video and actually relating to the relatively well shot, well acted performance that is "beta male". Imagine going through an emotional experience, seeing things that hit close to home as any well made film project can do. Imagine you fully play in to the sympathetic masquerade it's presenting. Then bam - getting hit in the face with that ending. Implying that you're beyond help and destined to grow into some white predator stereotype that lurks the internet with toxicity, or that this situation is the bad-end to the path you're currently on and...that's it. No call to arms, no positive message or emotional reaction. Just a warning that you might end up a shitty person if you wank to anime girls or get anxious easily. Now that is a pretty cruel and apathetic message from a video targeting a specific demographic.
You got it 100% I can't help but feel that if not for the end, there might have been some positive substance to this video. But, it is buzzfeed after all. In the only video they've ever made about a white male, they painted him in the exact light that they constantly perpetuate everywhere else online.
Just a few years ago, it was normal and ok to joke about autism even on Facepunch. A few years earlier, it was also ok for everyone to call eachother fags. Times change.
both of those still happen on 4chan.
Above all else, this is the most concerning idea the video pushes forward. Like, the video shows the process that made the main character cynical and then shows you that other people are going through similar shit. I think you're supposed to come away from that wanting things to change, and they want people to think about what should be done differently. ...and you know, maybe he'd be willing to confide in his friends about this kind of shit if they weren't such jackasses to him constantly. Maybe these people need somewhere else they can go for support. Maybe we as a society need to try harder to understand these people instead of stigmatizing them. These are all ways that the video can be seen as a cautionary tale without further stigmatizing this kind of person.
I think the video makes some valid claims, I wouldn't outright say it's attacking of a certain person, it's definitely looking at the other side of certain things although it's unintentionally stuck a lot of people into this category; stoners, skaters, gamers, people that like anime & anyone who browses message boards. I fit a few demographics brought up in this video and although I'm quite far detracted from the character they portrayed I completely understand why they might get that mindset, being single can be a self perpetuating cycle of self loathing and those who might not have self confidence or the ability to reflect on themselves might fall into this spiral of blaming everyone else. The video wasn't what you guys are pinning it to be, but it's also a little bit hamfisted in its representation - an extreme end of the spectrum if you will, and also shines a little bit of light onto how /r/redpill type mindsets might form. The video raises some valid points that need addressing but also does paint them as awful people, instead of victims of the modern internet-connected anonymous world.

I guess it implies that socially awkward guys are prone to hitting women and domestic violence? If they didn't try to put people like me in a negative light, then what the fuck was that? I guess this video isn't exactly about me, since I didn't go down the whole internet misogyny cesspool wormhole because of being unsuccessful with women, but still. I don't like that.
Since what I've heard of the video already disgusts me I'm just gonna say: fuck you buzzfeed for, what others have said, for pushing terrible stereotypes and downright ablest views of autism.
It's been done. (NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW) https://vimeo.com/75534042
First second is some dude whacking it in the bathroom to an anime girl on his phone. I don't know about all of you guys but to me this is probably the most hyper-accurate fictional video I've seen on the Internet this year. [editline]30th May 2017[/editline] Oh, so now he's complaining about women on redchan.it. It's like they took the /r9k/ archetype and based the entire thing around that. This is fucking bizarre.
This is borderline experimental
Nice try Buzzfeed. I am totally not like that guy. :v:
tudd confirmed alpha male
After actually watching it all the way through it's actually not that bad of a video imo. I mean it's pretty terrible but it seems to me like the actual "moral of the story" is how it all goes full circle. I don't think this video is meant to poke fun at the standard life of a "beta male". It shows the echo chamber that forms from this type of lifestyle. I still hate buzzfeed but tbh this one isn't that bad, if you look past the dank memes and jabs at the 4chen memers it's actually got a pretty decent message. And let's be real, these types of people DO exist. The ones that turn into these meme spouting "truthers" about women. /r9k/ is honestly pretty terrifying, it's bizarre just how out of touch every person who posts there is. This video feels like it's showing the creation of your average robot. These are the types of people that think there is such a thing as "the vagina market" and how women "fight to maintain their sexual value". Truly, they are all fucking insane. But the fact is they exist, and people like that give advice to people who are initially just skiddish, shy, and socially anxious. IMO this video is actually...kind of important. I still hate buzzfeed but this is a legitimately important video for what it shows, it's probably the most accurate portrayal of how people end up this way.

I guess I can see where you get domestic violence from but it's really a reach.
90% of 4chan humour is self deprecating stuff about being socially awkward if you want to trash them this is barking up the wrong tree
Like how this video tried to paint the protagonist as a "creep"; but ended up painting women as "two faced scoundrels". (I specifically used quotations cause it's not my actual thoughts on the matter.)
Like how this video tried to paint the protagonist as a "creep"; but ended up painting women as "two faced scoundrels".
How do you get that from this?
Like how this video tried to paint the protagonist as a "creep"; but ended up painting women as "two faced scoundrels".
I didn't pick up on anything that paints women out to be "two-faced scoundrels"? What made you think that? Was it because the first girl preferred getting hammered and dicked by someone else? Because that doesn't really matter, nor does it mean anything. That doesn't make a woman a "two-faced scoundrel", it means they just have a particular preference like...uhh, everybody else? I also never once felt the main guy was a "creep", he just didn't understand shit and he sought advice from equally retarded people. Specifically, people who have "seen the truth" and believe that women are, as you put it, "two faced scoundrels".
Like how this video tried to paint the protagonist as a "creep"; but ended up painting women as "two faced scoundrels".
found the dude the video is about
