Yeah that was quite the shock. The hype for MGS2 cannot be understated; When I played MGS1 back in 98' it was such an incredible experience even with such limited hardware. When the PS2 came out we saw a lot of what it had to offer but MGS2 was THE game that would show off its true potential. Those graphics, the high polycounts for the time, the facial animations... I remember seeing the screenshots at IGN and various magazines and people were so blown away and that trailer I watched countless times in low rez spit-part downloadable web videos. Then Zone of the Enders came out and we got the demo with and my god we played the shit out of that over and over. The demo lived up to the hype and then some, not to mention my friend had one of those massive huge 50" rear projection TVs so I got the best experience. Little details like shooting every bottle on the shelf, the slowly melting ice cubes, seeing the small object physics from shooting the magazines around, the fact that the soldiers reacted differently where shot and tranqued, that silky smooth 60fps and good character animation and weather, it was unbelievable for the time. Then the game came out and it sunk in when the tanker section was over that we were not playing as snake in a cool atmospheric nightime setting but this other character in broad daylight setting just was such a punch in the gut. Overall it still was a great game and I liked the later chapters but it was such a "WHYYYYYYY" moment for everyone.
Hang on a minute, I'm on the bomb defusing bit right now and I assumed you'd be switching between characters throughout, you're not implying that MOST of the game is Raidyn are you?
I still hope that Konami, just might make proper PC ports for the games like the HD Collection.
Don't hold hope out for anything positive to happen with the IP they can't even put confidence into their own abomination. We got the announcement for Survive at E3 and then dead silence since then. The people in charge blatantly don't care about delivering to fans nor even know how to, they just want the quick cash. Hence coughing out a Bomberman game for Switch launch, trying to turn MGS into yet-another-survival-game and of course the MGS Pachislot.
I didn't find Raiden that bad of a character, it's just that Rose annoyed the shit out of me. And every time there was shit being flung between the two, it felt disjointed like I was missing the bigger picture, or whatever that was.
MGS2 is easily my favorite in the series.
