Yeah RATM bass just owns. [editline]02:15PM[/editline] I think it a shame that bass is so inaudible in so many bands, I think it's a fantastic instrument and I love it when it's clear, and easy to hear and right up front.
I agree download karnivool's album themata great bass
Thrash all the way
I listen to a mix of all sub-genres except the '-core' stuff, my favourite has to be thrash/speed though :v:
Technical Death.
Actually the members have said that they would most likely classify their style as progressive metal because almost all the songs have a progressive structure and they experiment a lot. But they also said that genres suck.
I'd definitely just call Meshuggah prog metal. Because they don't really fall into anything, and they're very experimental and not really one genre and don't stick to normal song structures and all that stuff.
They're Djent Metal!!! :argh:
Djent falls under math/prog metal Progressive math metal? :buddy:
Nintendocore. :smug: Yes it's actually a joke-genre, but it's the best way to describe a lot of bands.
Progressive Groove Metal
Djent falls under math/prog metal Progressive math metal? :buddy:
There's no math in their music, the whole 'math' genre is just bullshit.
Prog metal is what Meshuggah are Extreme metal too but that's an umbrella term so it doesn't really count And how is it bullshit I've never really understood how math metal works anyway to be honest
Under which metal category could I put this little instrumental? Djent? http://soundcloud.com/dekay-snug/djent-style-fu-up
:colbert:
I see this a lot, though I never see facepunchers actually discussing grindcore as if they were listening to it :v: [editline]06:57PM[/editline]
Prog metal is what Meshuggah are Extreme metal too but that's an umbrella term so it doesn't really count And how is it bullshit I've never really understood how math metal works anyway to be honest
Basically math metal is extreme metal with math rock influences, meaning they use very inconvenient song structures and time sigs
Hah, I've noticed that too. I listen to grindcore sometimes, mainly on youtube though. I only have one grindcore album, a Napalm Death one. Time waits for no Slave
my favorite napalm death song:

I want tabs for that They actually play that live :v:

Thrash, melodeath, and occasionally power metal
Lately mostly doom/sludge/drone/stoner/etc and black metal, along with some death metal.
No love for Folk Metal?
This. Also used to be into deathcore, but not really any more. Like a couple of power metal bands as well.
Technical death, Power metal, thrash metal, blackened thrash, blackened death, Stoner,
Basically math metal is extreme metal with math rock influences, meaning they use very inconvenient song structures and time sigs
I really still don't see why it is called 'math' rock/metal. Playing in uncommon time signatures and having strange song structures sound more like progressive and it doesn't have anything to do with math.
I really still don't see why it is called 'math' rock/metal. Playing in uncommon time signatures and having strange song structures sound more like progressive and it doesn't have anything to do with math.
Well, maybe the math rock musicians back in the olden days took the more mathematical approach to music, i.e. counting the beats and bars and stuff to make it interesting, I don't know But well, it's the way it is
Stoner, Doom, Sludge, Progressive, Experimental (Djent aswell), and Post Metal
Go to a high school, find the douchiest looking douche you can. He listens to nu metal.
No, they listen to any thing that will make them look cool. By that I mean popular stuff that you can easily find by going to the right radio station. If I hear one more idiot sing anything by Jason Derulo in class I will fucking murder him/her.
grindcore is the best core
It's scary tbh:

Damn good grind song right there

I don't really know what makes a band grindcore, I don't know the traits the genre has I've just heard that they're grindcore. What's a good example of straightout grindcore then? Deathgrind?
