Gob's intro has a bit of an electric guitar going I think

the only thing i'm not liking is how they hold on certain jokes for too long. in the original series they'd show a side gag for like 2 seconds and here they go for like 10. trying to hard to create "new" jokes instead of letting them naturally occur. other than that it has been pretty excellent. sometimes I get bored of watching just one character for a full 30+ minutes but i think it will be better on second viewing
Yeah, some jokes like [sp]Michael/George Michael/Maeby talking about how to vote in the first episode[/sp] or [sp]Buster inhaling Lucille's smoke[/sp] go on longer than they should.
I'm still halfway through the season. Tobias's episode cracked me up. [sp]"Daddy needs to get his rocks off!"[/sp]
Not really feeling the new season so far. I will finish it, and hopefully it'll get better, but eh.

It does, the first three episodes feel slow, but then it ramps up and all the cross-references and gags come together and by the time it reaches episode 11 the show attains elder-gob tier.
The second Michael episode was when it really started picking up for me, then the rest were pretty much all very good.
I've only just watched the first episode. Does Maeby have some tattoos on the inside part of her elbows? I thought I saw some marks there but I couldn't make them out.
Is that canon now or is it just something the actress did? Or is it something else entirely?
That second GOB episode is amazing.

[sp]Gob's stammering moments went on a bit long too imo[/sp]
The show really does pick up the pace a few episodes in, I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for the future of the series
I love that most of the questions you have about stuff early on, get answered as you watch. Good thing it's a one shot.

same!

i think a lot of the pacing issues are due to the format it's in. people are used watching weekly and having time to digest the previous episode which means that they sort of have to stand on their own somewhat, this season is supposed to be consumed 4~ episodes at a time or over a smaller period than 15 weeks so they really have to do a lot of set-up early on to make it pay off in the way it does.

lmao (ep12) [sp]"also tobias you got a call back for something called "the big bang theory"[/sp]
I wonder what the logic was behind chopping the episodes up like this. Was it just because they knew we'd be watching them in a binge so they could do it.. or was it cheaper because they only have to pay the actors per episode or something?
Also - what happened to Lindsay's face! Did she have work done or is the makeup just different? When she was in India at the start of her episode I thought it was a different person!
Hurwitz said it was better to do them all at once. When the other seasons were released week by week, people lost interest. This way, everyone wasn't able to lose interest as quickly as the TV series.

I'm already going through my second watch of the series because now it's even funnier now that you can look back at all the future references. There is just so much to go on about and so many secret findings. Reddit has spotted some crazy subtle jokes that went right off my head. Here are quite a few.
[sp]
Buster gets sick because of looking through binoculars when George Sr. is circling the Hal & Burton's Goat Cream factory. Gene recalls this when driving with Michael in a later episode.
Lucille 2 is listening to "Getaway Runaway" before she gets attacked by the ostrich.
When Lindsay is in India, you can clearly see Tobias's head behind her, hear him scream when he gets hit, and hear his voicemail message when Lindsay calls him on the return flight.
When Tobias and DeBris(spelling?) are in the bathroom, there is some wordplay goin' on. There is some confusion between Doctor and Director (I think DeBris calls him a "Dr.Actor" so it kind of sounds like "director," or Maeby I'm just reaching here) and between "scripts" and "'scrips" (shortened version of prescriptions) so there's that. Can't believe I didn't get that the first time around.
In an early episode, George Sr. says something along the lines of "Sorry to give you the ol' noodle stab" to Lucille, and the Jade Triad threatens to stab Lucille with a noodle.
When Kitty is in Maeby's office, she puts the script for the movie into the "do not work on (or whatever)" pile and it is titled "21st Century Family," a play on the fact that AD is the original "Modern Family" and also some of the AD writers went on to write for Modern Family.
George Michael punching his father for dating Rebel at the same time as him is a callback to him punching GOB for stealing Bland from him.
At the beginning of the first GOB episode, the roofie circle sign at the Mexican store is not put up yet, so the sign gets put up after he gets caught in the roofie circle but is shown several episodes before, brilliant!
There are a couple of gags attributed to the Mike's Hard Lemonade. When Tobias gets put on the Local Predator show there is a glass of lemonade on the table. Tobias drinks from it and says "Is there alcohol in here?" In episode 11, when GOB and Michael arrive at the model home, they reach confusedly for the lemonade. GOB says "Lindsay?" and Michael says "No, Tobias."
Mort tips the black parking attendant on his way out of the studio.
During the realtor agent's funeral there's a procession of mail-vans in the background with one having a banner saying "R.I.PETE" referring the mailman that died delivering post in Sudden Valley.
The low budget version of Fantastic Four is available for viewing on the plane. Tobias later states he has seen that movie.
George-Michael tells Maeby not to put all his Anne's in the same basket.
The spanish woman that has sex with George-Michael tells him, before kissing him, "Nothing matters now, the drones are coming." In the Buster episode, Buster is so into controlling the Drone and ends up over Madrid.
During the final scene John Beard is presenting for Imagine News, which is similar to Fox news. The ticker at the bottom wishes Ron Howard's daughter a happy birthday and reminds him of a dermatology appointment.
The cars in Sudden Valley are mostly vans. There's an icecream truck and just a grey van with "Fun" painted on the side.
During the Michael intro Lindsay is called his (air-quotes) "twin" sister.
When Michael's dream-team walk slow-mo on "Simply the best" and Stephan Gentiles turns off the music he says "It's a slideshow of my granddaughter's daughter's graduation at college" and Michael goes "... right.". Maybe a stretch but I think this is a reference to how young James Lipton (who plays Warden Gentiles) looks compared to how old he really is (86).
Herbert Love has a thing for groping people who lost significant others. During a scene showing a video of Love campaigning two of the video suggestions read:
"Love accused by widow of realtor. Love: "It was only a consoling grope."
"Love accused by mailman's daughter. Love: "It was a con-soul kiss."
When Michael calls Lucille 2 at the end of the second GOB episode her voice-mail goes "Talk to Luciiiiiile", making it sound like she was falling while recording it.[/sp]
[sp]HEY WHATCHA TRYING TO SAY TO MEee ee [/sp]
You can hear a wood block in the opening of most episodes.
[sp]Gob's stammering moments went on a bit long too imo[/sp]

So are you saying [sp]he sh, sh, shoul, should, sh, shsh sh, should he just, should, sh, sh, should the guy in the 36, sh, should, sh sh sh...[/sp]
i don't like how they condensed buster, maeby and george-michael into one episode each.
Do you think if they did another series it would be more like the old format? I do miss that not all characters appear in every episode, it's pretty weird that Michael isn't the focus now. However, since this season did so well they could probably up the budget and get the cast all together for another season. Hopefully. This season is so fucking good
They have already talked about the possibility of another season, I hope that now we're all caught up with what they've been doing we can see them back in the "together" format
They have already talked about the possibility of another season, I hope that now we're all caught up with what they've been doing we can see them back in the "together" format
i enjoyed the character by character/obfuscated weird editing a lot, i hope they don't change exactly back to the "michael saves the family" stuff
I wouldn't mind if Michael was the main focus again, he was always the main character and the center point that brought the family together so I personally wouldn't mind it. If they got another character to bring the family back together it would be fine too, but all the other characters are a bit too whacky while Michael was always the sort of grounded one.
I still don't understand all the shipping containers from the advertising.
Or advertising Michael with the shaved hair.
Maybe Jason Bateman got a haircut
Maybe Jason Bateman got a haircut
That's crazy talk!
I still don't understand all the shipping containers from the advertising.
I think it's just a theme they've had. Like the boxset of the first three seasons was made to look like a can of sardines or something. I guess it's the whole not being able to avoid people you hate?
Maybe its cause it was cancelled for locked away for so long and now there unleashing it.
The can of sardines is because their all smelly
I have a question: at the end of Episode 1, [sp]Michael goes to Phoenix. But in the tag, he's back at Balboa Towers. Did I miss something?[/sp]
Anustart
Anustart
"Hello, Anustart."
[sp]"And she hadn't seen the license plate, either."[/sp]
My favourite reccuring joke this season has to be: [sp]Hello darkness my old friend[/sp]
