• [SidAlpha] Leaked documents show the probable future of loot boxes and microtransactions

At least for me I know my networth is probably near nil since I never buy anything. I don't think I've even bought a recent modern game, let alone one with lootboxes.
How do we go about starting a petition to regulate Big Data/Smart Data? It's in its birthing stages right now and honestly needs to be shut the fuck down before it gets anywhere.
Problem is that politicians are one of the biggest exploiters of your data, I'll doubt they'll do much.
I've been keeping an eye on this leak over the past week, gathered some possibly related stuff I found interesting: https://www.tum.de/en/about-tum/news/press-releases/detail/article/33897/ http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/6529487/?reload=true
I can't believe that thing batman did in that movie is real and friggin mobile games are going to use it to sell you shit
putting a one chance micro transaction after a unique gameplay moment is indistinguishable from just making you pay real money to ransom things you've already earned ingame, this is so cynical it almost reads like satire but it's not unrealistic which is depressing

It's sombering to read, watch and play cyberpunk classics these days. So many of "worst case" scenarios became reality in the last decade.
it's already here for mobile games http://www.scientificrevenue.com/
That shit is straight up creepy. Afluency? How the fuck is it going to know your wealth? If that somehow got a hold of money info from banks or something I'd be incredibly pissed off. And location? So say if you were relatively "poor", and you decide to visit a rich area, the price is suddenly just going to jump?
A while back i was chatting to a friend about weed on messenger and Facebook threw a hydroponic ad at me.
Me and my girlfriend did this by having a fake conversation like "I need a new car" and we received ads for Chevy trucks half an hour later.
and what if you talked about "i need a new dog" and still saw chevy truck ads here's the bottom line. all of google's and apple's voice happens server side. with this in mind we can safely assume facebook doesn't have the technology to do 100% accurate recognition on device, so they'd have to stream a hot mic to facebook HQ. well guess what, that would be an obvious always open data connection. pareidolia is a hell of a fucking drug. people only notice the coincidental ads lining up with things they've talked about, but they don't notice the ads that don't line up with what they talked about
It's a attitude like this that's making the online privacy situation becoming worse and worse.
it's not that I don't support online privacy it's just that to make the claim that Facebook spies on you is spurious at best
So is there anything we can do against this besides not buying any of these kinds of products? I'm asking because 90% of the people that are scared by this for a short thread will end up buying these games and their dynamically priced products anyways, proving to the companies that it works and that they're doing the right thing.
Become luddites, because this type of shit is becoming the norm for human civilization in general. [editline]23rd January 2018[/editline] ...Have you been living under a rock for the last 3 or so years?
uh no I haven't I just haven't seen anyone post concrete scientific proof in a controlled environment listening to a microphone is relatively hard, but going "wow a lot of X's friends have a pet, maybe X has a pet" is easy. I've never seen a "proof Facebook spies on me" video where it couldn't be explained by either pareidolia or social connections of ads rather than the microphone
Whilst I can not prove that these companies are doing it, it has already been proven that it is possible to create the exact system described. The only thing "stopping" anyone from doing it are the Google play store content policy ('apps must not collect information without the user's knowledge')
and the fact it would be a wiretapping nightmare? you take that into any state where they're two party consent, anyone near a person whose phone is always listening and recording everything and streaming it up whether or not the original person agreed, they're violating state recording laws just because in theory it could be done, doesn't mean it will be done

[editline]22nd January 2018[/editline] If your group has a high lmao weed percentage, and voice rec thinks you're talking about weed, its more than enough to guess that you're probably talking about weed, cross that with data of you talking about weed on facebook and blamo, computer now thinks you're a stoner.

So in the future we will play AAA games with a non-negotiable, obligatory new age Bonzi buddy?
So in the future we will play AAA games with a non-negotiable, obligatory new age Bonzi buddy?
that wants all of your money without directly saying so
that wants all of your money without directly saying so
"Damn, dead again after 30 attempts, huh? Looks like you need a helping hand, why don't you purchase the Exterminator XL for the extra special, 50 percent off price of 5 dollars. You'll make it through, guaranteed!*" :speechless:
it's not that I don't support online privacy it's just that to make the claim that Facebook spies on you is spurious at best
They already scan your friends lists, conversations on their app and use your google information to advertise to you that's already spying
They already scan your friends lists, conversations on their app and use your google information to advertise to you how is that not spying already?
well for one Facebook isn't looking at your google information since that's Google's property as far as I can tell, it's never been confirmed they scan messages for anything more than "hey this is weird this 40 year old man is adding a bunch of 13 year old girls" and even then that's unreliable sourcing as for friends list, you're literally openly providing them with your friends
Me and my girlfriend did this by having a fake conversation like "I need a new car" and we received ads for Chevy trucks half an hour later.
My Girlfriend and I used this to get cheap pizza for a while. We would sit around her phone and slowly and clearly have a fake conversation along the lines of "Wow I love Pizza, I could sure go for a Pizza hut™ Blazing inferno™ Pizza, but it's really expensive and Idk if we can splash out on pizza right now!" Sure enough, 40 minutes later, we would get 33-50% off vouchers sent to her via email. This shit gets fucking creepy tho- I remember one time we were at her parents, and part of our conversation involved some trouble her dad had experienced trying to order a top-box for his motorbike, the courier had broken the box, and he was having trouble sending it back to the seller, despite them living relatively nearby. When I arrived home, I was getting targeted adds on my pc for the exact model of top-box on ebay, from the same seller. But here's the thing- I don't own a smart phone, my girlfriend does. I'm still not even sure how they figured out who I was, and how to contact me, from a conversation picked up on someone else's phone? I'm sure there's a simple explanation for it but i thought the whole thing was pretty unsettling. It just seems like they figured out way more than they should have been able to from that conversation alone tbh.

They explicitly tell you in terms of service and such they will be sharing your data with their undefined list of partners. And all that means is anyone who pays them for it or offers them something valuable enough in return gets access to all the data they want. And Facebook does the same in kind. Personal data is fucking lucrative, and all of these companies are more than happy to share it for a steady flow of money.
I guarantee you that google doesn't share their data (which they use for ads) with anyone else that's their special sauce
Of course they do because that makes them a lot of money and they can get personal data from everyone else as well, letting them push even more ads.
I guarantee you that google doesn't share their data (which they use for ads) with anyone else that's their special sauce
I've had facebook show me adverts for things that I've been googling (things that I wouldn't exactly tell people on facebook about)
And people call me crazy for not using any social media :V
This paints technology in a very negative light to be honest, it is during times like this where it seems less like an improvement and more like a way of having everything be just as shit but for completely different reasons.
