Jim Sterling is gonna lose his fucking SHIT
Jim Sterling is gonna lose his fucking SHIT
it is rather paradoxical how these companies direct so much effort and creativity into this shit and so little of it into just making good games without any bullshit that would have ironically generated perfectly reasonable profits. All of the ingenuity seems to go into deception and money for some reason, and exploiting old franchises.

It's not about creating something or providing something you want the customer to experience. It's all about wringing that last dollar from every wallet. No-one fucking cares anymore man
Of course they do because that makes them a lot of money and they can get personal data from everyone else as well, letting them push even more ads.
i know way more googlers than you google's data remains in house and is never sold to another company because that defeats their unique selling point [editline]22nd January 2018[/editline]
I've had facebook show me adverts for things that I've been googling (things that I wouldn't exactly tell people on facebook about)
and when you clicked a link to the thing you googled, did it have a like button, or sign in with facebook button
things like this will keep happening until we start seizing the means
in fact, googlers tend to quietly absolutely fucking hate the rumors that facebook listens to your mic because all it does is reflect negatively on the google home line by and large google is not setting out to spy on you or be nefarious.
i know way more googlers than you google's data remains in house and is never sold to another company because that defeats their unique selling point
And I guarantee you you're wrong no matter who you say you know.
And I guarantee you you're wrong no matter who you say you know.
google's chief financial interest is keeping the data they have on you to them. as soon as someone else has their data, there's no reason for an advertiser to use adsense if someone else could sell ads that were just as targeted for less ergo they keep your data entirely in house. you obviously want to believe the narrative that secretly all the big internet companies are big bad colluding spy agencies, but that's really not how it all works at all.
Except ad sense is far more than just the data google has collected and that plays in to it a lot more heavily. Its an entire platform for delivering advertisements.
Except ad sense is far more than just the data google has collected and that plays in to it a lot more heavily. [editline]22nd January 2018[/editline] what more do you need [editline]22nd January 2018[/editline] also that "undefined list of partners" is defined here as sharing cookies not sharing your data
What they say and what they do are massively different beasts. You can say anything and as long as you hide the truth well enough get away with doing the opposite for decades. That shit happens all the time, especially in corporate society where the expectation is to lie to everyone to give yourself the best position. They can say whatever they want and so long as they keep prying eyes away, it doesn't matter. And even if they're exposed as lying they can still keep doing it unless an egregious misstep is made that puts them at serious legal risk or potentially jeopardizes some part of a national, supernational, or international entity. Like if it caused harm to a government agency or was seen as harming another large corporation. Then there would be problems for their lying. But until then, they can do as they please and lie about it, which they regularly do. I mean lets talk about Youtube and how often they lie about that when the benefits of lying are relatively minor and the risks of being honest are inconsequential. Yet they lie regularly about it. The amount of bullshit they've claimed throughout the "Adpocalypse" is astounding, when it was demonstrably false.
okay i give up for real, enjoy living in paranoid world where everyone's out to get you and the big bad google is colluding with the big bad facebook
I don't think they're out to get me or anyone else. They're just entirely capitalistic, focused solely on material gains regardless of any supposed morality. Simply put, they just want to make as much money as they can.
okay you know what i'll play ball: let's say for a second that you're right. google and facebook are exchanging user data. with that in mind only information each company would find interesting from the other is the users they don't already have. however the problem with that logic is there's now no way for them to use this information in any meaningful way. they can't access the tracking cookie used by the other site because the browser won't let them (i'll ignore the fact that chrome is owned by google because chromium is developed in the clear and any attempt by google devs to alter source cookie ACLs would be caught immediately), and without knowing who they are to build more information on them, that information is also worthless
In the simplest and most broad way alone they can look for commonalities among their data and then look at what unique data each collects and the groupings that are formed within that, because they collect different forms of data from different sources and have different uses for it.

I dare you to show me a single instance of any company ly- https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/16/companies-lied-to-you_n_5318940.html https://www.freepress.net/blog/2017/04/25/net-neutrality-violations-brief-history http://www.businessinsider.com/false-advertising-scandals-2016-3 https://www.polygon.com/2016/7/28/12315238/nvidia-gtx-970-lawsuit-settlement http://www.cracked.com/article_24106_the-6-most-shameless-liars-in-video-game-industry.html http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/exxonmobil-climate-change-oil-gas-fossil-fuels-global-warming-harvard-a7908541.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An76-kLVvZI Oh... For real though I don't think FB and Google are 'colluding' but posting an image of google saying "We promise we won't sell your data" is insanely naive and doesn't prove anything. A multi-billion dollar companies word can't be trusted, its' absolutely true that actions are better than words with them, especially when google does have the tools to abuse. it might not be doing it now, but how can you be sure it won't happen in the future? This idea that its a 'paranoid' idea is just insulting. It doesn't have to be a matter of them being a 'spy agency'. It's a matter of them just happening to have the right tools and the reward being greater than the risk. Again, I don't think google is currently selling data, but if they did, who is going to stop them [editline]23rd January 2018[/editline] it isn't some paranoid delusion whipped up by some idiot who lives in a tinfoil padded trailer in the middle of the woods who communicates through a series of interconnected satellite dishes Its very easy to see where the idea comes from. [editline]23rd January 2018[/editline]
uh no I haven't I just haven't seen anyone post concrete scientific proof in a controlled environment listening to a microphone is relatively hard, but going "wow a lot of X's friends have a pet, maybe X has a pet" is easy. I've never seen a "proof Facebook spies on me" video where it couldn't be explained by either pareidolia or social connections of ads rather than the microphone
Ok So where is yours?
I guarantee you that google doesn't share their data (which they use for ads) with anyone else that's their special sauce
Is this a joke or are you childishly naive?
Sigh I already had to warn my cousin's (who is 12) parents about shit like predatory systems in games that will try and manipulate the player, especially children. Soon I'll have to tell them about roaming data scraping AIs that will try and sink their hooks into him as well. Fuck these people and all that they stand for.
Is this a joke or are you childishly naive?
i used to be about as close to being a googler without actually working for Google i am neither naive or joking
i used to be about as close to being a googler without actually working for Google i am neither naive or joking
I guess you're a loyal shill then.
ah yes the word "shill", the ultimate argument ender. VERY good points man
i used to be about as close to being a googler without actually working for Google i am neither naive or joking
It's interesting that rather than provide any sort of tangible backing for your opinion at all, your whole argument is 'ive been closer to working at google than you so im right' this conversation has only gotten more hilarious with every post :hurr:
