I have Aspergers also, I can answer any questions too.
(I was actually diagnosed, I'm not one of those people who use it as an excuse.)
If anyone is going to try and say that everyone with Aspergers is mentally challenged, that's not true. Aspergers children tend to score high in math, reading, and other skills in school. I was reading at a high school level in 3rd grade for example. The part that forms the largest problems is that with Aspergers, social skills are effected extremely. Often display "selective mutism," which means they will only speak to people they want to speak to or are comfortable around and almost nobody else.
I don't use it as a "crutch," I just try to practice social interaction with my friends and therapist, I also do focus on particular subjects. It's fucking annoying when people say "ass-burgers" and "aspie," it's shit like that that leads to worse bigotry.
Often with non-verbal forms of communication such as body language and emotional cues, can be misinterpreted or ignored by an Apsergers patient. Often through modes of communication such as the internet, the lack of this can allow people with Aspergers to converse much more easily.
Just for the record here, there's a difference between having Asperger's and being scared shitless of social interaction that's more involving than passing by. People with Asperger's lack the ability to instinctively comprehend certain elements of social interaction and conversations. That doesn't mean they have to stay dolts at it, they're perfectly capable of learning.
So quite some of you people say "you can't", whereas you actually "don't want to". It's people like you that put any actual people with the syndrome to shame. I too tend to act like a deer caught in headlights in unexpected social situation and I too am scared of social interaction. That doesn't mean I'm actually proud if it. If you find yourself in the same boat as me, I suggest you try beer; just one.
I find it actually turns me in to a more fluent, less angst person. It may even turn me in to someone who can be relatively nice. Though to fully achieve that you'll need something more powerful, like uranium or a rock.
Any of you who use "I'm special" as a crutch to avoid doing something about it should get beat with a stool.

I believe we've established that already
A lot
I have no idea why anyone would think having asperger's would be a gift and why anyone would be proud of it. There's stupid stereotypes roaming around the whole internet, most of these stereotypes were made up by people who have never seen someone with Asperger's ever.

If you have no experience with an aspie you are in no position to judge. In my opinion.

Some of it has a good side, like the ability to be extremely smart and creative.
I hate the difficulty with social interaction, but I'm working on it.
Some of it has a good side, like the ability to be extremely smart and creative.
Last time I checked you didn't have to have a deficiency to be either.

There's a god lad.

You don't, from my experience, it is a little more common in these cases.

Well that's all pretty relative. Keep in mind that you're comparing a large group of people with a way smaller group of people. Where are the charts, god damn it.
Yeah, aspergers is for sure not a positive thing, but I suppose taking the positives from it would be a good thing if you have it?

That's the basic outline...

A constantly reacurring trait among many aspies (or so many aspies say) is that they look very young. All my life people have always assumed I was years younger than I really am (ie: junior year, some kid is all "Are you a freshman?")

I look like I'm twelve. I'm 16. :smith:
Yeah, but I've never seen it documented that aspies do factually* tend to look younger. But the forums I've been to and allot of stuff on the web do say that it's extremely common.
*It's never come up with my psychiatrist or her handouts, never saw it on Wikipedia, etc.
I never thought LinuX was more of an idiot.

oh god HOLD ME BACK CAUSE THIS GUY IS FUCKING GRRRRRRRRRN
shit, and I thought that guy was cool once upon a time
I was diagnosed by several doctors with this when I was like 11. I guess you can say I'm "normal" apart from my chronic computer addiction, and my constant stuttering and slurred speech. It actually is pretty difficult, it's like my brain physically fights my ability to be social amongst new people.
[editline]29th July 2011[/editline]
I used to be much worse when I was still a teenager.
I was diagnosed at 15. I'm 17 now and I'm mostly recovered (I tend to derp a lot more face-to-face but it's still bearable)
OK, to be honest I derp a bit while typing things out but when typing I have a backspace button.
Okay just a bunch of shot in the dark questions here but:
When you talk to someone or when you're around people around your age, do you like.. not know where to look, scared, don't know what to do, don't know what posture to take. Stuff like that?
idk if it's a phase i'm going through or what.
I'm scared to talk to others my age
I'm in the house and i hate going out because everytime i go out i get nervous when i'm around people and i think i don't belong to anyone.
I have like 3-4 Friends that i actually know, im too scared to get anymore.
I have to try hard as fuck and be at the most confident to be social.
when i talk to other people that i don't know i start fuckin up. even if i talk to teachers. i freak out
when i'm in pain i don't really care.. last time i cried about anything was like 6 years ago...
Is it just a phase? or what?

We aren't trained pros so we can't say for sure.
Maybe it's Asperger's. Maybe you're just a wuss. Only someone with an MD (or whatever the psychiatrists have) can say.

lol, i guess

AS is actually characterized by two other key symptoms as well - obsessive interests/routines, and communication difficulties, just to let you know.
well here are my stuff/symptoms. kinda explained better
I fuck up when i talk to people i don't know that much. even if i know them, i need to know a person ENTIRELY to talk to them normally.
I find one thing i like, that's it. i'm obsessed with it. Like a sport. I really like a sport and i don't stop talking about it and i think it's the best sport when i havn't tried any others.
I have NO idea how to act during social situations, i have ticks, i act really awkwardly.
I'm never enthusiastic around people i don't know. i can NEVER be happy around people even if it's something i'm happy about. when the people are gone, i can jump and be really happy.
You're not giving actual examples.
Like a sport.
How much sports have you liked then?

I'm awkward when people gesture towards me, such as if strangers near my age seeming like they're talking about me behind my back. Though if it's people asking how I'm doing I usually just end up doing generic small-talk. It was worse, and better, for me back when I was in high school, I had much more opportunity to get to know new people and interact with others near my age. Now it's just dull basement-dwelling life, and you're pretty much fucked if you can't get help from your family or something that specializes in getting started.
I don't really know though, I transfered out of high school in my Junior year to this smaller group-based place, and they didn't really teach me a whole lot.

Yeah, that's strange. Though normal. I, myself, enjoy loud crowded places. I could do anything to go to a ball game or a theme park.
Just keep your friends and get to know them better. I screwed up with my high school friends and now I only have one.
