I went to a funeral today and afterwards played a game similar to scrabble (but without a board)with some other relatives. I think that one of them may have aspergers because they have quite a bad stutter and when I was joking about some of the words they were coming up with (I said Bento shouldn't count because it isn't an English word) he was very serious about it saying that since it's in the latest edition of the English dictionary it is an acceptable word, he's right of course but I was only joking.
Oh jeez, my Mom was reading Wikipedia and thinks I have it even though I only meet about half the symptoms.

I'm pretty sure you need to have well over half the symptoms to actually have a plausible diagnoses (and I don't say plausible because you really should be diagnosed by a doctor before you say you have it.)
Well after reading the symptoms on wikipedia I found that I don't have it, which takes me back to square one I guess

Don't know how many times we have to say this, before saying you do/don't have it go to a doctor and get tested.
But you said doctors won't test me because I'm not young enough

The fun thing about mental stuff is that if you know the symptoms, everyone eventually has it.

I said maybe. It's kind of hard to find a doctor that will diagnose older people. Not impossible.

Yes, that was the point. I'm saying that I know I don't have it, but my Mom thinks I do.

tell her to take you for testing. it's the only way to find out.
Most awkward 30 seconds of the month for me yesterday. I was browsing through Best Buy after biking there (Huge mall/shopping area nearby), After a while of walking around looking at laptops one of the guys working there stopped in front of me asking me a bunch of questions like "Oh, you were looking at video cards over there, are you a gamer? what games you like? I'm a gamer too. Lets talk about gaming." I stumbled for what seemed like a minute, I said some really bad lie like I was in a hurry or that my ride is here or something and I waltzed out of there.
Seriously. You'd expect meeting other gamers in public would be a neat thing, it's really not ;_;

You can be elderly and be diagnosed with aspergers. It effects all ages, there is no 'getting rid' or it.
But you said doctors won't test me because I'm not young enough
They'll "test" you for it at pretty much any age (test is a terrible word, you aren't having bloods taken), but you'll probably need to see a psychologist or similar for them to evaluate you. Go and ask your GP would be my advice.

So true. My mom convinced me of having anger management problems cos I used to blow up all the time, even though I was just pissed cos my parents were the fun police :P
One thing I wonder with all conditions like this, is if I met you in the street one day and chatted to you for 30 minutes, would I be able to tell you had aspergers?
If not, how long does it take peopel to realise? Do you generally have to tell people?

The ones who have it, can generally pick up on other people having it easier.
I never really liked how people assume people with aspergers are more intelligent or whatever than others on average.
I'm sure if people abandoned most of their social life and focused on one or two subjects, they'd be just as good at them. I could be a goddamn genius with straight A's in college but quite frankly, I don't give enough shits to do so. It simply seems dumb to say "I do better in school therefore I am more intelligent." Grades don't mean anything other than how much of a shit you give. If anything, interacting effectively in social situations is part of intelligence.
I understand that people with aspergers or other kinds of autism tend to be on edge when certain things around them happen. Does this happen with you? If so, what does it feel like? And why do those things put you on edge?
I don't mean to be offensive at all, I'm just curious.

You can perfectly well get labelled genius by people for decades/ages to come and have a social life (Albert Einstein was good with the ladies, it's been said)
Does this happen with you?
You think all goes perfectly well until something unscheduled comes along: anxiety time.
We think my little cousin has this. He's 4 now, how early can you detect Aspergers? And what are some early signs?
It can vary but if he has a certain hobby, i.e. planes trains cars & boats or anything else, he may get a hissy fit if you try to do anything about it. It's quite the norm but aspergers are sometimes known for going in full-on rage about you taking their favourite toys.
Do you have dificulty getting to sleep?
I have aspergers, and it can take me from 15 minutes to an hour (sometimes it takes even longer) to finally get to sleep. I have heard that people with aspergers do have trouble sleeping, so I'm just really interested.
I also have Asperger's. I'll try to answer some questions, too, if you don't mind.

I don't know about other people, but it usually takes me around half an hour to go to sleep. But I usually just listen to music until I feel drowsy, that way it only takes around 5 minutes.

A psychologist I went to said that people with Aspergers usually do have a higher IQ.

Psychologists are idiots and tend to pull shit out of their arse. See what I did there? People with Asperger's tend to be forced in to situations where they will get a higher IQ rather than anything else.

I had the same thing, it could take me 1-2 hours to get to sleep sometimes when i was little (10-15 yrs), it was ridiculous, so for awhile I had to take sleeping meds, but since I was 16, I didn't take them anymore, and I finally could sleep fine without them.

It's not like what people make it out to be where someone with aspergers is a socially awkward Micheal Cera character, it's much more subtle and you'd have to know what you're looking for.

"I'm a shy person so I must have asbergers"
This happens with pretty much every ailment, people connect completely normal things to a handful of symptoms and conclude they must have said ailment.
Yeah I have issues sleeping a lot, and I can somewhat easily stay up for days with little sleep. What's worse is I rarely get tired.
(And yes I was diagnosed very early on in my life by a psychologist.)

The people I know with aspergers are very smart. They don't talk to people, but they are very smart.
