It's not a scam. If you used your phone for the intended purpose, it wouldn't cost so much. Instead you sit around texting, making random calls, and other pointless shit. It's your own fault.
Can someone explain why everything cell phone related is so horribly expensive in the US compared to Europe?
I'm always puzzled by how you guys are paying a 30-100$ for a worse plan than we can get for <10€.
Unlimited Smartphone (even though I have an iPhone?)
iPhone is a smartphone :downs:
Nokia E63, not a brilliant phone by any measure but I'm getting a HTC when the contract is up in June.
£15, Unlimited Texts, 500 Minutes, Unlimited Internet.
HA HA HA! You silly people and your phones! I use fire and smoke to communicate with my people!
But in all seriousness, I don't have a cellular and nor do I intend to get one since I can't afford the monthly payments.

Er, that's exactly what a phone is for...

Cant you go prepaid or ask your parents?
I hate how they come out with 5 smart-phones each year that are exactly the same.
I think I have an old cell phone somewhere. I don't use it though because no one never calls me and I never call anyone. Forever alone ;__;
As a Canadian your note about UK/Europe having it better makes no sense to me, as my plan is gorgeous for my needs and I never go over, even if I try.
So are my friends:hitler:
I live in Bulgaria and I have a Sony Ericsson W715 for 200$. I pay 7 bucks a month and have 150 free minutes to absolutely every single number in my country. I also have 500 free minutes to 10 select numbers. There's free Wi-fi pretty much everywhere I go now, so I don't bother paying for internet.
Sprint can suck my dick:

pay as you go, ho
I get retailers discount. I pay about 10£ a month for unlimited everything
Welcome to capitalism.

LOL. So you guys will be paying as much for CDMA as their (Not actually) WiMAX/4G service. I need to stop complaining about Canada's cell services.
Get a satellite phone.
I only got my phone because my mom left us, so I got her phone. I get a smartphone in a few months.
I use my phone for internet, msn, etc. the price isn't great, but at least I get a lot of use out of it.
Sprint Sucks.
They sucked back before dumbphones had color displays (No Reception) and they apparently suck now.
I guess Verizon [sp]What I have, but you'll still have to pay for crap[/sp] might be better...or some other provider.
Just be a smart shopper.
You know, I used to work for AT&T at one of the Canadian call centers. No, AT&T doesn't serve customers in Canada, we actually served American customers who thought we were based in the US too lol. You know, of all the phone calls about problems I ever got, there were two types of phones that stood head-and-shoulders above the rest for how fucking garbage they were:
1. Motorola RAZR
2. iPhone
You bought an iPhone? LOLOLOLOL you're an idiot buddy. I got a call about a blackberry physically not working ONCE (over a year), and that was because someone dropped it in a pot of soup. I told them to try drying it out first for a day and then call back if it isn't working. I followed up on it later and they never called back, so I imagine it was fine. iPhones on the other hand... I had everything from broken screens to phones that just bricked because they didn't like the SIM. I went through TWO FUCKING iPHONE LAUNCHES, SAME SHIT. I don't understand the hype man, they're so god damn bad.
I would argue that even worse than the phone itself being shit, is the fact that the phone company can offer you NO SUPPORT. NONE. If there is a problem with the device itself and not the plan/your bill, it goes straight to Apple and then you have to deal with those twats.
Bell actually owns Solo, the same way Best Buy owns Future Shop. Think of it as reducing the competition by being the competition.
Koodo is owned by Telus, Fido is owned by Rogers. If you truly want to go independant, you'll need to go with Virgin (Bell network), or these two new companies that have opened in some of the urban sectors: I forget one of the them but the other was Wind Mobile. Both of these other companies have built their own networks.
I personally have a pay-as-you-go phone on Telus. I pay $10 a month for 2500 outgoing text/unlimited incoming, and that's how I keep in touch with people. I do this because being on a contract is quite possibly the dumbest shit you can do (once again talking with the experience of someone who worked in the cellular industry).
Hahaha OR people are just idiots who think that dropping a phone on solid concrete will never have any consequences. iPhones are great if you treat them with care.
I bought my HTC Topaz almost a year ago for 318€ with a 3 year contract and paying 5.5€/month.
I also get 350 free minutes for these 5.5€.

How exactly is it free if you're paying for them?
The contract is where they get you, if you find another deal, you're still locked in with that contract for three whole years. Getting off of them isn't cheap either I've heard.
