Also to OP and any other member who is with Sprint, Google Sprint Everything Plus Employee Referral Program. With it, you can easily save $10-20 a month.
Get a skypephone from 3. 150MB internet allowance, 300 free texts, free skype to skype calls and free 3 to 3 calls if you topup with £10 a month, I have never ever paid for a call.
Clearly I live in the US. We have to deal with bullshit from 4 companies (ATT Sprint T-mobile and Verizon).
Clearly I live in the US. We have to deal with bullshit from 4 companies (ATT Sprint T-mobile and Verizon).
There's also MetroPCS, Cricket and many, many others. Seriously, if you don't wanna be locked into a contract just get a Go-Phone. Problem solved.
I pay about ~5 bucks a month, only calls and text because I don't need anything else. 60+ minutes of calls per month, about uh 20-60 messages
I think my fee is pretty decent. I'm part of a family plan and I'm an added line so it's $10 a month, on top of that is the $15 unlimited texting I have, and $30 unlimited data plan which I use everyday to look at news articles, sports articles, stuff like that mostly everyday for at least half of the day. Sometimes I listen to pandora on my iPhone which racks up a lot of data, but I have unlimited so my provider loses out. It all depends on your provider, how you use your phone, and the plans. Mine = $55 a month on added line. If I had the plan to myself, hell, I'll stick to a dumb phone for awhile.

Problem solved.
I don't mind a contract. I just don't want to be butt-fucked when I want to upgrade my plan. My whole issue is that Sprint charges an extra $10 a month over the already expensive $30 extra a month for internet. This isn't even counting the $30 I have to spend on my phone, or the $5 I have to spend on my 300 texts. I mean if T-Mobile doesn't charge you extra for 4G when compared to 3G, then why does Sprint have to? It reminds me of when the current generation of consoles came out, and how every $50 game jumped to $60 for no apparent reason, and everyone followed suit. Now I'm getting $60 games to Steam -- a service that doesn't have to deal with all the bullshit that has to do with packaging, shipping, or burning onto blurays or DVDs to get me the product (or shelf space).
I feel like I have had a revelation to how much of a scam the cell phone market is, and it just keeps on expanding onto us. Makes us feel like the cell phone dealer is just like a drug dealer. Whenever you go to your drug dealer, it seems like he has something new that just beats the last thing he sold you, and it's only a few extra bucks at cost to you.
Welcome to capitalism may i take your jacket or are you leaving already again? btw blackberries are for women or gays. :tiphat:

I guess if I had more money I wouldn't be bitching right now.

Don't wanna pay $40 a month for data? Don't get an Evo then. Simple as that. [editline]10th January 2011[/editline]
btw blackberries are for women or gays. :tiphat:
Them's fightin' words and I'm sure there's millions of professionals that would like to disagree.
Actually if you buy a shit phone they are the ones with the internet shortcut just waiting to be pressed and take all your money, by an average unlocked nokia and you wont have any problems
It's new technology and people will pay for it. Don't wanna pay $40 a month for data? Don't get an Evo then. Simple as that.
Yeah that's what I'm doing. I'm going to get any dumb phone and just pay the regular fee for that. It'll save me $30 a month, and potentially $40 per month.
im paying $45 for 500 mb internet, unlimited calls to the same network which is good because it is the biggest an 100 texts free a month fair offer considering your mum costs $5 more but im rolling in the whey so what gives right smoke one out
One more thing, I know for a fact that you can call Sprint and ask them to disable data for any line so you don't have those kind of surprise charges at the end of the month.
Them's fightin' words and I'm sure there's millions of professionals that would like to disagree.
uh no
Buuut, if you did want 4G you could always use your phone to tether exclusively and then you wouldn't have an internet bill. Just a thought.
Pre paid all the way. Non-contractual $15 for ~60 minutes every three months. Great for me as "cheaper" plans have daily usage fees, and I rarely use my cellular, anyways.

Also I dislike blackberries, all the popular bitches have them and they are overpriced
Yeah $55 is pretty expensive for one phone for your parents to pay. I guess if I had more money I wouldn't be bitching right now.
Yeah but $55 a month for everything that I have with my iPhone doesn't seem that expensive. We're not doing that well right now. I offered to get a job and pay for my phone on the bill, but they said it's alright. You seem to be doing something wrong, find some connections and such, some people that work at a STORE they own, they can switch plans around for you and make it cheaper in a way for more options. I got unlimited data when it was no longer promoted from a friend of my moms. Also to OP, that $18, it could have just been an activation fee.
Check and see if you get a discount with your employer or maybe one of your parents. With my job, I get 13% off every month. :buddy:
I'm on pay as you go with 3 and only top £10 every 3 months, giving me 600 free texts, 150mb internet and free calls to other 3 mobiles. Pretty good deal if you ask me.
If you plan to use the phone for something other then to phone, of course it's going to cost more.
I completely agree. The cellphone companies are just getting rich by locking you in a contract with some expensive phone that will probably become redundant in a year. Besides, 4G is just a thinly veiled 3G.
I can't. I am on Sprint, they don't use SIM cards to change between phones, you have to call and activate it through them. It's the only way with Sprint (and Verizon as well I think). I would leave Sprint, but one of my family members (who is in the family plan) has about a year and a half to go. Besides, my mom likes to stick with Sprint since when I signed up with them, we were able to get free calls after 7PM. It also seems to me that us Americans and Canadians are being screwed up the ass from these phone companies when compared to other companies in the world.
Basically this, this is why we haven't TOUCHED our plan in years. We still have the same price that would have been 100% if we signed up 4 years later.
i got my first cellphone last year [editline]10th January 2011[/editline] you have to pay when you receive text? oh wow
The united states is the only country where incoming texts cost money. Also OP you realize the first dumb move was even considering a plan on for a contract in the first place right?
I paid $69 a month for 3 year, untill my phone provider called me with a special offer. Got me exactly what I needed for $10 a month, with a $5 unlimited 3G internet addon.
600 minutes, unlimited texts, 500mb internet, free HTC Desire. £25 a month. 18 month contract. hardly a scam, I'm happy to pay that.

Should I move to the UK?
Buuut, if you did want 4G you could always use your phone to tether exclusively and then you wouldn't have an internet bill. Just a thought.
I do this quite a bit when I'm at school. My internet at school is pretty bad and I use my Droid to teather during peak hours. It's also nice to use it to set up a wifi network in my room. We aren't allowed to have our own wireless networks on campus connections, but my phone makes it easy to hook friends up with internet access. (We're only given two ethernet ports/room, can't use hubs/switches either.) My bill is about $85 a month, and I'm on a ~25 phone business plan if I remember correctly. Unlimited plan (data, texts, minutes.)
