Wahaha. I just realized bell is logging all my data on HSPA+ as being part of my unlimited social networking. Looks like I have no reason to complain anymore :P Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to tether as much as possible using "social networking"
Yeah, I paid $300 on a black berry and it decided to fly out of my pocket, and slam against the floor. A razr never would have had this problem...
Honestly, I'd just pay the data, drop texts, and drop to the lowest minutes plan, and you're set. Data can be used with something like Google Voice to text(at least on android), and if you don't call that much, you could use SkypeOut or something similar.
I have a house phone and the internet, I don't really need a cell. I've considered keeping an old cell phone incase I ever need to call 911 and don't have access to a phone (I've heard 911 still works even if you don't have a plan), but so far I have not done this.
I go with Virgin Mobile with a Samsung Intercept, not the greatest android phone in the world but it works for me. 300 minutes with unlimited texting/data for $25 per month.
OP
Your woes are understandable. All I can get away with is a streamlined plan which doesn't even support sending pictures or calling outside the local area. Go with Cricket. Unlimited texting galore.
The only thing I have a gripe about is the data plan. Why don't they have a family data plan? $15 per phone is way too much. And $30 for unlimited is also too much. No one really uses the data that much anyways since I'm hooked up to my router at home and I usually don't spend a long time on the internet when I go out due to the fact that I'm busy and that it wastes a lot of battery.
Well I tether my phone to my computers for a one time fee of ten dollars, so I think I'm saving money.
Damn I need unlimited texting. I send like 250 texts a week at least.
I have no data plan, only unlimited texting, Sprints data plans are rather expensive.
Unlimited text plan.

If a phone has no service, it will be locked to either dial 911 or the carrier. If your phone has a lock code, it does the same thing. I agree it's complete bullshit, you try to explain to me why every text message costs me 25c unless I pay another $10 a month for a text plan. Does each text cost another 25c in electricity usage by the fuckin transmitter? No it does not, that is just the company price gouging me into signing onto a "rape me for the next 2 years" plan.
Top up Android with £5 Android automatically connects to Gmail to receive small email Receive text from Orange "You only have 0.95p credit left on your phone"
Someone should start a cell phone company where the service fees only cover what absolutely needs to be covered, with profit coming out of a loose contract. Sure, you'd make less money, but you'd get a lot of customers who would be very happy with their plan.

The phone companies decided to increase prices since people see that having a cell phone is a necessity these days (which it isn't unless you're on the road a lot -- but even then it's not very important).
I pay 10 dollars a month for 2000 texts, dont need much else than that.
Here in Greece we can just buy credit from kiosks and just add it to our phones. Many companies have special programs such as giving you 1500 minutes of talking and 1500 texts for a month to others that belong in the same program of the company for every time you add credit (the lowest is 5 euro). It's really convenient. For internet I can either pay 3 euros for 60MB of bandwidth or 5 for 500MB of bandwidth. (both last for a month)
last time i touched a phone was when i got a call telling me not to try to drive my car because i would likely die in an ice related incident not a very fun experience when the next morning you see someones car igniting from friction
Yeah but i couldn't live without my phone... However the 120/month it costs me could be put towards something better i bet.

I'm ditching cell phones altogether and having 3/4G connected tablets instead. Android ftw.

Almost every purchasable technological service in modern society is a scam, along with millions of consumer products. Don't forget people are trying to cut the biggest profit they can, you are going to get fucked. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
One of the reasons Canada sucks. Mine's actually pretty cheap to deal with because I don't do all that smart phone shit.
