c'mon man, you're a smart enough guy to know that's not how the world works
Honestly I was just extremely angry after watching that video, it brought back memories of the town I used to live in where this happened daily.
Of course I know the world doesn't work that way, I just can't help but place myself in the shoes of one of these people and think WHY there is no law enforcement, these people are only minding their business, they don't deserve this shit. Sure killing them won't fix the problems, but letting them off the hook and letting them have their own dedicated mugging spots is worse. I'm probably more pissed at the cops (Or the lack thereof) than anything.

I swear I'm just misreading this but doesn't that imply you mug people
Yes that seems pretty clear from his post.

Sounds exactly like he mugged people and isn't too proud, who would be. Was it worth it Slim? Did it make your life that much better? Would you have starved if you didn't mug someone?
I honestly don't know if you're ignoring everyone's points or if you're trolling intentionally.
A bit of column A a bit of column B.
I wonder whats on those bottles they keep drinking from.
Also, I bet if you ask every brazilian on this forum if they'd recommend visiting here, all of them would say no.

Plenty of those kids must be into sniffing glue. In which case they keep it in bottles.
I accept the boxes. I shouldn't have referred to them as human.
Amazing
It's like looking into a fractal of pure edges
wow does it really happen that regularly?
thats fucking scary
in some clips they aren't even running away

imo it really depends on where exactly you go in brazil.
now i'm not going to say "crime doesn't exist!1!one1" but i've never once witnessed a single mug or assault. brazil's huge, and there's a fair bit of socioeconomic inequality as well.
in my opinion, people are better off staying away from the brazillian olympics. just stay home, drink some nice beverage and chill. it's not worth the risk, and no good can come out of it.
Especially since the disaster that was FIFA World Cup 2014, I have had very high doubts about hosting any sort of major international event in Brazil. Do not say "economic growth!" because all that will come out of it is more angry people. They can not expect growth without fixing the existing problems first.

There is even a dedicated list just for the controversies that the 2014 FIFA World Cup generated: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_2014_FIFA_World_Cup_controversies
I feel like there is going to be a mass stealing on the first day of it.
This sucks so much.
Ever been mugged? I have.
Fuck them. There's plenty of poor people who don't turn to stealing, if they spent as much time looking for work instead of terrorising people on the streets they wouldn't be fucking poor.
Facepunch acting like these thieves are the victims, you disgust me.
You're emotions can not decide that.
wrong! i thinks there's a LOT of really awesome places to visit in brazil, and if you take the proper precautions it's super chill! (rio is definitely overrated though, it's just tourist bait)
What are the proper precautions?
some basic stuff is not wearing jewelry, not using your cellphone in public (thus getting distracted and opening up an opportunity for some kid to take it off your hand and run), not wearing flashy / expensive-looking clothing, paying attention to your surroundings, and one that i feel is often underrated it walking with proper posture, fast (not jogging, but just a bit faster) and frowning
But then again, why would anyone bother? Might as well do some war tourism in Syria.
I'd just go somewhere else safer or stay home.
Also, 95% of Rio is ugly as fuck, and the rest is overrated. Not different from most other brazillian cities.

Some degree of anger is understandable, but how far does this mindset get you? If you enter a fit of rage at the slightest attempt of humanizing criminals, how can you possibly hope to understand them and, subsequently, the root of the problem? These people are victims - which doesn't mean they shouldn't be held responsible for what they do - of a broken system, one that marginalizes them and makes them more likely to turn to crime, and until your anger is directed at that system, the only thing you're going to get is this
