Yeah that's the stuff :buddy: I can see soul in it, unlike the forced look of your other shots. Edit: Unrelated, dumb, and potentially old; I randomly came across this image (bloody Canon) and apparently it belonged to a photojournalist killed in Iraq. Something about it is really striking to me, hits close to home for some reason. I'm chalking it up to being obsessed with photostuff and that I know people who are war photographers. As nerdy as it sounds that 1Dwhatever looks really sad too.

Either way, that's a pretty depressing picture.
I just want it to snow already, downtown portion of my city has white Christmas lights EVERYWHERE, they are on every tree and span across the roadway from one building to the next. And snow everywhere would make it look so good.
BOKEHLiCIOUS!
Well, I know it is against some of your advice, but I saw another E420 listing on eBay and decided just to go for it. Put in a best offer not expecting much and as it turns out he put that price on an auto accept! Woohoo! So it is in perfect condition, with a screen protector on already (thank god, hate scratches). 3x lenses, 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 a 42-150mm f4.0-5.6 and a 53mm Macro! 3x batteries. A remote, all caps and straps, documentation. Woo
enjoy your limited selection of lenses [editline]7th December 2010[/editline] "man, i need a fast, cheap, standard prime" sorry we don't make one
I completely understand your point of view, but I do not have the budget to upgrade my lenses, at all, this camera is just for taking out when I go somewhere nice, getting the occasional good shot. This isn't turning into a full hobby, or a profession, so I do not care about my limited choice of future upgrades.

[editline]7th December 2010[/editline] And also, I can use any lens from the Pentax K range or any minolta lens too, plenty of Prime's there and dozens of telephoto. The e420 is a sexy lil thang, he'll have fun with it. Just don't dump a ton of money into the Olympus, switch over to Canon or Nikon instead.
This isn't turning into a full hobby, or a profession, so I do not care about my limited choice of future upgrades.
I'll PM you that in a year so you can laugh at yourself.

I love how ijyt always rates against me, I was lightheartedly suggesting you'll fall in love with photography.
god damn it friend said "I'm getting a DSLR!" Oh wow, what one I exclaimed with glee "Panasonic G10" :downs:

Edit: Page king, obligatory content. I hate compact system cameras (except the NEX series) and superzooms. And any camera made by Fuji.

That picture makes me kinda sad :P I've seen much much worse but there's some sort of connection to him/her being a photojournalist that hits me.
I've seen much much worse but there's some sort of connection to him/her being a photojournalist that hits me.
Yep. Also the forum I snagged that off of, the poster said the PJ was killed by shelling, presumably from insurgents.

Can someone recommend me a lens to get with the 550D? It'll probably be my only lens for a month or two, so I'd like it to be fairly decent.
for an all rounder? 24-70 f/2.8L or a 24-105 f/4L but if your on a budget, 18-105 EF-S
If it only needs to last you a month or two, go 50 1.8, then since it seems you'll be able to get something else in a few months, combine the money you saved instead of buying L right off the bat, to buy a better L. Or just pick between the 28 1.8 - 50 1.4 - 85 1.8. 50's a little tight on a 1.6x, so I'd go 28 1.8 for an all-rounder. If you don't like primes, the 28-135 IS USM will cover everything for under $500, or like cueball said 18-105
i've only got 1 lens, so i'm keen to buy another for those situations where a 10-20mm just is the wrong perspective i'm keen on a 24-70 Worth getting the Canon? or will be the Sigma suffice? Or is there another recommendation somebody could provide
I'm looking at a 24-70 too, and call me a fanboy but I notice a lot of people more satisfied with the Canon than the sigma, you just can't top L series (ignoring exotics). My uncle was actually so disappointed with his Sigma he sold it to get a Canon L. Maybe slap a 50 1.4 into your bag too. Side note: I've heard a lot of people say you should never cut corners with buying lenses, because they stay with you for so long.

As I've heard from everyone, you can't match the L series glass/optics, but I dunno if I could justify the risk of destruction I am slightly disappointed with the Sigma 10-20, in hindsight a Tokina 11-16 may have been a better choice. I probably will go for the Canon 24-70, you get half a stop more anyway, I'll just need to wait longer before I can buy it

It's perfect for landscapes, since speed is no issue. [editline]8th December 2010[/editline] Codenamecueball, you're a huge gearnut.

I've been lurking these Photography threads for a while now. Just wanted to say, I adore you guys for all these beautiful shots. It's extremely eye-pleasing and inspiring. Keep up the amazing work.

Though I still don't post much because I just feel like everyone else is so much more advanced, I "don't want to get in the way", so to speak (though saying that makes me sound rather like an attention whore). Some of the shots on here (lots actually) just make my day. It's unexplainable and the fact that everyone has a friendly connection is great. A lot better than ive seen on other forums (such as the one in question a few pages back).
