Looking for a good pair of gloves which would let me operate my camera in pretty much all weathers, since my hands were almost frozen off when i was last out photographing
there's a type of mitten you can find that is fingerless gloves underneath, with a mitten hood to cover your fingers when you don't need to be usin' dem fingers. Personally, I just find those cheap $1 thin wool gloves, cut the end of the thumb and index finger off the right hand, and double the gloves up.
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11323379/DSC_13177.jpg[/img_thumb] C&C please
well, it's a leaf macro. some parts of it are not in focus. the leaves in the background aren't particularly interesting. the picture could probably benefit from a closer macro, because the texture on the leaf is interesting
I can take a proper, non bracketed, proper WB'ed original if you want?
Both are good, I might "work on it" in photoshop.

I took 5 photos on this shoot before a Sea Turtle Patrolmandudeperson came out of the darkness and informed me he had called the police and that I couldn't be on the beach after sunset. Woah, nice Brian. Sucks about now being "allowed" to be on the beach at night. Brilliant shot though.
This one is just fantastic. Despite the caos, you made the focus still be on the foreground. Fantastic colors aswell.
Thanks, I am so glad I got that lens the other day, otherwise it wouldn't have looked nearly as good. [editline]13th December 2010[/editline]
Woah, nice Brian. Sucks about now being "allowed" to be on the beach at night. Brilliant shot though.
Since when the fuck can you not be on a beach at night? What kind of bullshit is that. A beach at night is one of the most beautiful places. Bri your picture proves that point. Great shot bro.
I still want to buy me a camera. Only reason I didn't yet is because I suck badly in almost everything I've ever tried so I really don't think that spending so much money on something I know nothing about and don't want to give up afterwards.
Just go for it. Honestly, all the people I know that are 'good at something' aren't magically talented at it. They've just been doing it for a long time. As long as you enjoy it, you have everything you need to get good at it. I'm far from great as a photographer and struggle to produce the images I see in my head, but it manages to be (and has been) my main interest. Failure isn't falling down, failure is refusing to get back up. I go through discouragement spells every now and then (in one right now) but as long as I never say to myself 'I give up', I know I'll improve. As for not knowing anything, that's what you have us for :buddy: /trying-to-be-inspirational rambling.
I don't think there's a better way to describe it: :') I'm going though a depressive artistic phase right now, so yeah. I can't improve my musicmaking skills, I'm holding back on a long-coming desire to start photography. So yeah. Thanks. :shobon:
That's why photography is so cool. The trip to get a photo is sometimes more fun than the final product itself. Photography is a great stress reliever and a good way to clear your head. You don't NEED to get the best pictures right away. Sometimes it's just more fun snapping away and just enjoying your surroundings. Frankly, you can't really go wrong with photography if you don't try to be all pro with the best gear and shit. Just learn the basics and start taking pictures along the way. Hell, I started photography by taking close-up pictures of windows, plants and anything that wasn't interesting at all. You will get better. Get to know your camera in and out, learn the basics and just have your camera with you when you go out to walk or even go to the store, it doesn't matter. You'll love photography
A) They don't have storage caps but you are only allowed to upload 2 videos and 300MB worth of photos each month. B) The cost of a flickr pro account is only 25 bucks a year, which is worth it considering how good it is!
They do kinda have a storage cap in a sense that you can only have 200 photos on your flickr visible to others. Also any photographers here who use (or used) both film and digital cameras mind answering a few questions for my essay? Can be as brief or as long as you want, just make sure you get your own opinion across. 1. Which do you prefer; Digital or Analogue? 2. Do you think there's still a place for film now? 3. Do you think there's a place for film in the future? That's all for now. I know my answers to the questions. (Hence me writing the essay) but I need some interviews.

35mm film will live on due to hipsters, Ken Rockwell, and film producers. Large format film will live on due to landscape photographers.
Sooo, I've got my D7000 now back from the repair shop. The lens has stopped making that awful noise. Should hopefully be posting a lot more over the Christmas period, after my Uni work has finished.
Took some pics an hour or so ago What do you think?
I don't feel they have quite enough contrast in them, kind of wintery drab.

Are there any sort of landmarks in the area? Add some contrast to the composition. The second I can't say much about. Nothing really jumps out about the pattern of the broken ice, or the composition. If you feel like being adventurous and breaking the ice in some sort of pattern, you could have something kinda cool. The texture on the third in the bottom right is nice, and it could use a closer crop and some sharpening/contrast to bring it out. And a smaller aperture, if you decide to shoot it again.
Woo, tell me how much you like it because I'm bound to pick one up in February.
Well, I'm loving it. It's such a huge improvement over my D80. The buttons are in better places - and the extra features are fantastic. Having a bigger screen is beautiful as well. The sound it makes is so much better than before. I don't have any critique against it (At least not over the D80 - which I've been using for quite a while now). All in all, I would recommend it :D
I agree. It would be nice, if he did something else than deers, panoramas and self portraits.
I don't think it really matters, it's not like you have to view his work as a whole. If he can produce one amazing deer shot that gets published, thats a much larger accomplishment than diluting his skills in different fields - just because some people get bored looking at all of his work. A jack of all trades is an ace at none. It would be like telling someone who spends their time perfecting lua scripts to go make some maps in hammer. Specialization can be a good thing. To us it just looks like all he does is takes pictures of deer, to him it's a specific art. A wildlife photographer doesn't have to be a fashion photographer. I'm sure when he was starting out he dabbled in all kinds of work, but it looks like he's found his place. Not everyone's goal is to be a 'general' photographer.
the abundance of repetitive subjects kind of kills it for me
You're referring to it as his whole flickr. If you had only seen one shot, I'm sure nothing would have been 'killed'. I don't know I'm rambling now, I can see what you're saying about needing to be well rounded and having experience in other places. I'm tempted to just snip this but i'll leave it up.
