What about this?
You're referring to it as his whole flickr. If you had only seen one shot, I'm sure nothing would have been 'killed'.
I don't know I'm rambling now, I can see what you're saying about needing to be well rounded and having experience in other places. I'm tempted to just snip this but i'll leave it up.
it, as in his gallery, and the experience of looking at it, yes. But, that's just the thing, is that if I saw much more variance in his shots I'd feel much more inclined to keep looking. Right now, even if a shot is amazing, by the time I get to it all I can think to myself is "another deer... another deer... fog and trees... goofy 'outtake' of himself..."
it's just disillusioning. I understand when you only have access to a forest most of your time it's going to be forest pictures most of the time, but the format becomes noticeably formulaic in how he sets up the shots, and it becomes less art and more 'another day, another picture'.
I know I'm kinda crazy with that, but I'd rather see a small gallery of moderately interesting yet wildly different pictures than a massive gallery of moderately similar yet awe inspiring pictures.
I can see that. Yeah it makes sense if you're taking it in as a gallery.

Was playing around with flare. It's rare for the sun to be out anymore :saddowns:
Edit: I hate being accused of using fake lens flare. It's not apparent in this shot, but it's almost as if people think it's impossible for a 'normal person' to have 'real' lenses or something. Even if it's not intentional, it's cheapening when someone says "what program do you use for those effects dude?" I also hate people who apply the fake flare without a light source even being in the frame.
If anyone feels like editing a photo, here is one I took today.

I thought it had alot of potential if it were edietd right. But I just couldn't make up my mind on how to edit it. Like wether to crop the lamp away or not. Feel free to edit it.

I was wondering if we should start up a "Not mine but I wanted to share" thread. All in favor?

'Photographer Appreciation Thread'
or more vague.
'Artist Appreciation Thread'
'Photographer Appreciation Thread'

'Artist Appreciation Thread'
This is a longshot, but how about 'gear discussion' thread too? Kind of a merge with Which Camera? I've had the urge to share my collection of camera porn for awhile -this will cycle into the whole photography subforum idea.
But yeah Artist 'Appreciation' is brilliant.

it seemed that at times the 'which camera' thread WAS the 'gear discussion' thread, people all posted about what they do have, talked about what's interesting, and others got some insight on which camera and gear people like, further enhancing the thread. :buddy:
Just make the "which camera" thread the gear discussion one too.
Dai, how's the framing and everything on my picture?
Tips oh my lord

Decided to go and take a first serious attempt at a shot with my Sony P200. :v:
Found out how to make a bit of DoF by setting the focus on point, and took a pic of one my sis' dying flowers:

Tell me everything, guys
subject is feeling a little bland. Not because of what it is (though we see a lot), but maybe the angle. Looking down at a potted plant is very blah. Maybe if you got a little closer and took the picture looking upwards, it would feel a little different.
Also, wilting flowers... feels like they should have a dark background rather a white wall.

the processing is a lot better, but the subject is still offputting (to me)
£15 delivered, bluetooth, wireless
a deal I must say
http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewevans/
- This guy could easily be the best photographer, I've ever seen.
I love the depth of field... £6k for an f/2.8 400mm lens >.<
Popping ultra-high dof on every shot doesn't make you a good photographer
Popping ultra-high dof on every shot doesn't make you a good photographer
Of course not, but it looks great in those shots.
Actually it'd be an ultra-low (shallow) DOF
And it does look great.
Only £15?
Shit, I'll see if I can find one for PC. That's really fucking cool.
ebay
Did some Freelensing today with my 28mm and 85mm lenses today. They turned out good and this was the best.

Most beautiful dead birds, ever.
That's not a bird. That's a penguin!
penguins lay eggs
it's a bird
a lizard lays eggs
it's a bird
