There's always something deeper about random portraits. I love looking at the way the person is postured, also where and what they are looking at. It tells a lot about the person, in just a quick picture. I really love photographs of seniors, they just have that sort of "Figure Me Out" feel.
In that case, you might like this one that I took a few years ago. Another one of my favourites - and just another man, coming out of a newsagents during my break at college.

Brothers girlfriend invited her friend over and we all got smashed. Someone took my photo and I decided to touch it up a little bit.
Another one of my favourites. I was driving to Moree with my grandparents and stopped over in a cafe by the road. This man was sitting there drinking a coffee. I asked if I could take his portrait and he agreed. Faint vignette, saturated colors, low focal length make a great photo

Yes, not dick criticism thread.
Drunken Rhetoric [that sorta applies to the discussion]: I hate fill flash, especially with a pop up. There is no control of the absence of light, which is just as important as light itself. In the same way music would be noise without any silence in between the notes, photography is boring without any kind of shape to the light. That shape is defined by the lack of light - darkness. Here is a poorly worded, yet still valid, quote I found awhile ago; It's talking about cinematography, but I think it applies pretty well to photography, and most visual arts:
The lighting reflects the mood of the characters and not to show what they physically look like, but what their emotions at the time are.
This is the main concept that Ken Rockwell has failed to understand, if you've looked at his portraits they're extremely bland. His goal is to make sure every pixel is evenly exposed, he doesn't care about or understand expressing emotion and telling a story (he thinks he does though). Only read his gear reviews, everything else is toxic to the creative mind. Also, it might be a bit of personal preference, but the best way to post pictures here is a non-thumbnail 640x~420 or 1024x~680 image. People don't like having to click to see an image, and they don't like scrolling either.

I like the second and third ones the most. I choose the second one over the first because it's apparent in the first that the sheep didn't want you near them and they're staring at you, and the foreground is a little bland, but in the second one it has more content within it which kind of balances out the landscape IMO. The mountains seem to be "pulled closer" as well. The third one I like for the texture of the water container. Try to pull out some more contrast in the midtones, maybe pull the clipped highlights down to a more grayish shade.

Although I have no idea what i'm doing, was just aimlesly playing with the shutter speed and other settings hoping for the best.

In many countries it is perfectly legal to take someones photo on the street without any consent whatsoever. (as long as your not being shady)

There are many styles to photography, just that he doesn't do almost at all any artfag "ooh that's so dark and emoticonal and expressing the deeper emoticons" photos, doesn't mean he is a bad photographer. He shoots landscapes mainly, they aren't meant to have any deeper meanings of life and shit, just beautiful shots. He isn't a studio photographer anymore, all portraits I've seen he has taken are snapshots about friends and family, those aren't meant to be any "artistic" photos with a dull, boring face and BW conversion with a shitton of reflectors and studio lights. And I'd say on the contrary, look his photos, not his gear reviews... Unless you shoot Nikon, as it's fun to see his overly bias towards somebody shooting with Nikon for 30 years.
In many countries it is perfectly legal to take someones photo on the street without any consent whatsoever. (as long as your not being shady)
Except we're talking about asking them for a portrait where they know the picture will be taken (I'm assuming thats most of the point) rather than just a candid photo.
1000D with IS lens been reserved in Jessops, and it costs the same as the non-is version (which is out of stock) because I get cashback through Quidco (try that shit out) I am so stoked.
I would really like some C&C on this piece;)
Background is too bright. Looks a bit "flat" to me. is a small improvement (imo)
Thanks, for your input(: - It truly saddens me, that i have no friends that know anything about photographing, whatsoever.

Opened up a flickr account, see how it works compared to DA. Took an inaugural macro. I might do a 365, but I would give up quite quickly
