The first is with Zuiko 50mm 1.8 and the second is with some random 300mm 5.6, I don't remember if I had a TC on it or not.
I did my first shot with a kit lens at f/5.6 on an EOS 1000D, and the second using a G10 with the lens wide open

is the overexposed part of a particular style for these photos?
Waiting for my Wireless Flash thingie too get here, I Fired 40 flashes at 15 Hz, 1/128, then I proceeded too go outside and do a robot dance. I hope it comes soon, I'm losing my sanity waiting for it.
is the overexposed part of a particular style for these photos?
Sorry, my bad what was I thinking
I find portraits look better with that overexposed washed out look. I feel it's a bit too intense in karl's photos though, but that's just my opinion. Otherwise great shots like usual.
I've got a job, so i should be able to provide funds for my nikon D3100
How ironic! I just replaced my D60 with a D7000 today and so far it is amazing! After I take the obligatory first pictures of my cat I plan to go on a little outing, I'll let you know what I think.

How do you achieve this kind of shot, seems like whenever I take an image with a bright background the girl would have came out really underexposed...eh
expose correctly for the subject, let the background blow out. (i would assume.)
How do you achieve this kind of shot, seems like whenever I take an image with a bright background the girl would have came out really underexposed...eh
Just expose the girl right, then the lens flare and overblown background will come all by itself. It's a cool photo too. I love that effect. I took a photo with the same kind of effect in august

Gonna get a tripod soon but I'm not really sure what's good and what isn't. Are the cheaper $30-$40(AUD) ones any good? Or is it worth forking out for a more expensive one. I'm kind of a beginner so I don't really need a top of the line one.
I looked in to it and about $150 is the minimum you should pay if you don't want a flimsy piece of shit.
A £15 one I got from asda did me until this year, was flimsy as shit though. [editline]30th December 2010[/editline] I got it when I was in Primary 6, so that was about 5 years ago [editline]30th December 2010[/editline] a leg broke off it
This one's $50 down from $80 http://www.teds.com.au/tripods/slik-f630-tripod/w1/i2988451_6341477/
that'll be ok, but saving more to get something more substantial is recommended. what camera do you have? that will also influence which tripod you should get.
Canon EOS 500d and 18-55mm kit lens
the one you linked will work but how well it will work you wont know until it arrives in the mail. If possible go down to you local camera store and play with the tripods they have there, write down the model numbers of tripods you like and then go home and look it up on http://staticice.com or evilbay
Well the shop in the link I posted is at the mall I'm going to tomorrow so I'll check them out. Thanks for the advice :)
I'd actually follow the advice evilking posted about tripods and go cheap. Get something for 50 bucks, so that you have functionality and don't burn your wallet. Can be just as sturdy if you weigh it down.
Is this seriously a photo? :monocle: Really nice.
yup, on my screen the colours look pretty much spot on when compared to the print.
