Question for you photo guys. What part of the human face is used for considering what thirds your subject is in? The eyes or nose?
eyessssssssss
Shouldn't eyes always be the focus of portraits?
I took this photo today. Got chatting with this man, Len. He was sitting up at the top of the park listening to his portable radio. You could hear the music from halfway up the hill. He's 88 years old and used to be a opera singer. He also served in the airforce during the battle of Britain. I sang a song with him from Oliver Twist and asked if I could take his portrait. [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] Also, what did you guys reckon of those misty forest photos a few pages back? Criticism please? Love love
He seems like a really nice guy :3:
[QUOTE=Pickwickian-;27082933]I took this photo today. Got chatting with this man, Len... [/QUOTE] Oh wow, that made me smile.. I didn't manage to go out to Arthurs Seat today :( Really dark day didn't expect many good photos from it. Ill see about tomorrow.
Arsing about with shutter speed, next time I'll use a lighter and tripod instead of moving the camera about. [QUOTE=Funny;27084473]Hmm I did some long exposure work with a green laser pointer, I'll see if I have the shots saved somewhere.[/QUOTE] Any tips on how to get great results? I saw an eerie light in the fog and thought, might as well try it as it looks cool in photos, 10 second shutter speed and pointed and moved the camera around with different aperture settings, Tripod would probably give better results for a start!
I've bought a 200mw green laser pointer. Haven't gotten it in the mail just yet, but when I do, I'll be sure to take some long exposure photos.
[QUOTE=MisterM;27084520]Any tips on how to get great results? What I guess is the main purpose of long exposure shots is to make some sort of interesting or captivating pattern or effect, rather than some random squiggles in the sky. You can use it to capture things in sequence, like someone posted earlier of the moon, taking the lens cap on and off on a bulb exposure to document each moment in time. I am not entire sure how that works on the memory front though :\. With the laser I found that the beam didn't get picked up very well even though it was easily visible, and the point would overly tint the picture green. I just put in an offer for 18gb worth of microdrives that may or may not be working, :\, still the £5 to find out is cheaper than 18gb worth of CF cards, and I don't mind the lack in write speeds.. or power..
Hey, Funny, were you at the Torchlight procession?

From what I've shown to people they thought "cool effect, how'd you do it?". I'll have to have a in depth look on how to do it, would it work to tripod the camera with a torch, tilt the beam at an angle so you don't get the beam pointed at the camera and still get a decent beam? Thanks for the post, good to get some criticism and advice as my flickr racks up a few views and the odd "nice shot" camera which is great, but constructive criticism is always appreciated.

I didn't even know about it (shame on me), would have been grounds for some amazing photo's.. Did you? MisterM: The torch thing was what I was trying to do with my laser. It didn't really work, but again that was a laser, and again, I'm crap, so please do try it and tell me (or show me) how it goes. Adding you on Flickr too :3 [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] Another example, see with this: [img]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5161/5308081890_d5cb1186dc.jpg[/img] What's great about it, is the segmentation of the lines like the light was flashing at the time, gives it that bit of pattern, a bit of quality. What I don't like is how those segmented lines are just everywhere, not building something. [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] More pointless shot's to add content. Added you too, cheers! I was literally going in a circle with the camera for 10 seconds to see what I got. Shall try the torch soon and see how it works.

I purchased a Hama tripod for £9 the other day from Amazon. Yes, it is slightly flimsy, but it is aluminium and is rugged enough to withstand a daily beating. Heh. But really you wouldn't want to go into any strong winds when it is fully extended as with the centre of gravity VS the weak ass legs, a topple is inevitable. Half extended would be OK though. [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] Oh and MisterM, if you have an iPod Touch/iPhone there is an app that I can't quite remember the name of. It flashes jibberish on the screen as you take a long exposure shot. If you do it correctly your text appears in stunning 3D arrangements that look pretty cool. I'll try and find the name.
I have Android on my HD2, the torch app can do really fast strobing but I wouldn't count it as gibberish, just a lot of light. If you find the app name hopefully android has something like it too, thanks!
