You don't have to be their friend to take their portrait. You can pretty much go up to the person you want to take a picture of, and simply chat a little bit, then ask if you can take their picture. Almost every time that works. - By the way, a really pretty girl, in my class, used to hate that I took pictures of her. too. Then I just asked her about it, and she turns out she was afraid I would take unflattering pictures of her, then put them on Facebook. We then made a deal. I can take pictures of her, if she gets to look at it afterwards and then decide whether it should be deleted or not (paranoid).
Also, sorry if my spelling sucks, its goddamn new years eve, so I'm not feeling super duper fresh, atm.
Used 28-70 2.8L for £500 is a very convenient solution
Had a go at night photography. Didn't really know what I was doing and it's a bit out of focus. Had fun experimenting though :)
tripod

tripod + heavy as fuck bag of books or something to weight it down
they should make 1080p buffer within my lifetime first imho
just saying not very useful for regular users - 6 second time limit and the long writing after that, and the fact you can't see the display
Well it isn't aimed at regular users so that's ok. I for one am pretty fucking stoked about 4k and especially about the 4:2:2 container. That's really great to hear coming from someone who uses his 7D to shoot movies, documentaties and promotional movies. It's pretty hard to do a good color correct on dslr footage.
Oh and happy new year you guys! I had an awesome night/day, hope you guys had a great time!
Snapped these cool cloud formations at dusk.

I really like the first one. Looks like some sort of deep sea jellyfish swarm :D
You know you need a cable release to use bulb mode right?
It's one of my most used settings (taking most of my photos at night or in the dark it's necessary)
6 minute exposure - Taken it darkness with a little light shining through

Not on my camera, I just hold the shutter (in manual mode, turn shutter to BULB)
Same on every camera, that's the idea of bulb.
If you hold the button, your camera will shake, that's why you neees a remote.

Hey codename, I'm in Glasgow :v:
I would upload some of my new years party photos but none of them are exactly "artistic", unless you interpret them as some sort of social commentary on the behaviour of drunken people :v:
i always enjoy the photography of drunken behaviour.
post em
Can someone browse through my pictures and tell me what I can do better ?

You are? Where. The trains are off all over so I can't go anywhere :v:
Protip: you guys should add a subject to your firework shots beside the firework ofcourse. Firework looks good but it isn't interesting. You could always try to include scenery in your pictures. Not saying your pictures suck, they just aren't very interesting
I need to get a full-frame (possibly older model) Canon on a budget.
Any help?

better but needs light on the other side too.
one from your left side, one from your right side, and one from behind subject targeted to the subject and the light is perfect.
yeah, I know that I needed a fill light to my right, but I'm more just talking specifically about the processing. bringing out the oranges in the skin, smoothing it out, and evening the exposure.

also, Roll_Program editing is in the subtle tweaks, not the full rewrites.
